Do you prefer side excursions from the tour loop for phto ops?

We've been putting together the Massachusetts Southcoast - Rhode Island East Bay Spring MG Tour to be held on May 5, 2012 (MARK YOUR CALENDARS!)thumbs up

It's shaping up to be a fun drive on some twisty roads looping through the countryside and along the coast with rest stops at 3 of our region's award winning wineries, as well as an area favorite, Gray's Ice Cream!smiling bouncing smiley

The first question I'd like some input on is this:

Some possible locations would require a drive out excursion (not more than a mile or so), then a u-turn, and drive back. Some are pictured below, they are

1. Sakonnet Point Fishing Beach, Little Compton, RI

2. Lee's Wharf, Westport Point, Westport, MA - Westport Point was the filming location of the upcoming movie "Frank The Bastard" starring Chris Sarrandon

3. Horseneck Beach sand dunes, Westport, MA

4. Gooseberry Island, Westport, MA

Vote and/or post your thoughts!

Cheers,

Rick

Cool!

Also, in the meantime, be sure to monitor the Meetup Forum. We're constantly doing weekend runs as long as the roads are salt-free.thumbs up One of these weekend, when the planets (and everyones' schedules) allign, we might just have a fleet of MG's out there. . . you, me, Jed (Jedster1), Jim (JDevol), Larry (Hickster), Gerry (Wigan), and any other MGE member who can join us! . . . maybe even Art (914efi) and Dave (RIRaven). . . if we can get Dave off his skis and back into his garage to work on his roadster.winking smiley

Cheers,

Rick

Depending on the weather you can get some good salt spray on the causeway to Gooseberry Neck, so I would vote no there. You can get a nice up-close photo op at Westport Point since you can park right on the docks. That would be nice to show off your individual cars. The money shot for the group I think would be Sakonnet Point, as the road curls around the small harbor and you can park them all together and shoot from across the water. Too bad there won't be any sailboats at their moorings that early in the season...

Hey Dave,

You are correct.

Gooseberry is a great destination, but it's hit or miss regarding the surf and wind. I took the BGT over to check out the condition of the parking lot recently, and then had to thoroughly wash it down when I returned home. The sea was very angry that day and was breaking over the causeway.eye popping smiley

The Point has access to the docks (depending on usage), and another photo op would be parallel parked in front of all the historic homes back up Main Road from The Paquachuck Inn

Horseneck has plenty of parking, and the dune backdrop is neat for those members who live inland.

And at Sakonnet Point it shouldn't be busy enough that anyone would mind if we staged a pic or two at the fishing area or the Sakonnet Point Yacht Club.

So at this point, I'm leaning towards making Gooseberry an optional side trip (if anyone's interested) from the Horseneck stop.

Can't wait to see the Raven flying with the group!thumbs up

Cheers,

Rick

Art,

Yes, that's my Grampian Grey BGT you see running around the area.cool smiley

When discussing the many different colors available on MGB's while visiting with Frank Motta on last weekend's run, he mentioned your Aconite MGB!thumbs up

Mine used to be Aconite in its previous life. Somewhere along the line it was painted the current dark metallic blue. It will need a paint job sometime and the jury is still out as the keep the current colour or go back to its original, but that would require having the engine bay redone.

I should be up for the May tour.

Looking forward to it and happy with whatever you come up with. I'm not a fan of taking a million pics but would be good to get one of the group at a nice spot.

Should be fun.

Grey's Icecream is a great idea.

A good spot to stop might be the town land in Little Compton. There are paved roads to a grass field on a bluff overlooking the ocean - nice view and public!

Could stop at any one's place with a project car and kabitz for a while.

On my calendar! Might have the engine broken in by then.

Aconite rules!

It's good to hear Frank is better, I guess I can bug him again.

I look forward to seeing your Aconite colour B. Might give me food for thought as to the direction I may go eventually

Jim-

I have to say that I'm a little partial myself to the town landing in Little Compton, since two of my children were baptized there! Looking forward to looking in your engine bay, too.

And don't forget . . . we have to make a stop at Coastal Roasters!!

Other than that I don't really care where we go, as long as we go!

From now on I'm going to stick to sophmoronic soft porn posts, and simply skip over topics I don't like. So there.

Hey Jim,

Thanks for the suggestion. I scoped out what's officially called Little Compton's "Town Landing". Not well marked (keep them non-locals out!) and about 100 yards of a rough dirt road (no rocks) to get there, but. . . what a reward!thumbs up

What do you say guys, I say include it!

Cheers,

Rick
