Power washed the underside of the car. Need to scrape the undercoating off now. Prepping to remove a section of the outer wheel wells for repair. Separating the wheel wells from the fender will be a chore. It looks like the PO replaced part of the fender and welded it solid to the wheel well.

Take the time to understand what a part does and how it does it, then you'll have a better understanding of how to fix it when it goes wrong. Beats the scattergun approach every time.

Ignition testing made easy.

Got the car back from a complete front-end suspension rebuild and:

- Replaced U/S choke cable (much easier if you take the radio out first)
- Replaced missing tonneau pegs
- Replaced ugly 1990s radio with modern (but retro-looking) unit that plays tunes from my phone
- Fixed non-moving heater air flap
- Refitted demisting hoses
- Washed the car

- An MGB is never finished. And all those replacement part deliveries give your postman something to do...
- If duct tape doesn't fix it - you haven't used enough duct tape

We drove to Mt. Rainier on a beautiful sunny Northwest day. A place that is surely worthy of the term "awesome."

Finished soldering the Mega Squirt 1 V2.2 that I have been building. Now onto the loom and sensors for it. Going to run it for ignition, via dizzy and sigle coil, and datalogging only. Staying with the SU carbs.

Oy, vey, what a fortnight! First the fuel system died a couple weeks ago. So I installed a new fuel filter, which didn't solve the problem, since no fuel was getting that far. So I had had my garage install a new fuel pump. (The real culprit! The Mr. Gasket solid-state pump had died, no doubt a death hastened by some very dubious previous-owner wiring.)

Then as I pulled out of the garage, the tail lights died. Then after getting the tail lights going again, everything on the ignition-switched fuse died. And then after I replaced that, the directional signals died.

Agggh!

But all is finally sorted, and I'm back on the road. Now it's time for a wee shakedown cruise to make sure it all hangs together, then a wash and wax, and then we're off to the Dream Cruise tomorrow. Hurrah!

Jackie and I took the back roads (New Boston, Mattapoisett, Long Plain, Gammons, Perry Hill, Mary's Pond, and Fearing Hill Roads) to sup at Qdobas in Wareham. . . And I bet those roads just made Steve (sws615) smile.smiling smiley

On the way encountered a '58ish Corvette and actually got a thumbs up from a driver of a Ferrari 308, and then met a TR3 and a RBB on the way back home. It was a good drive!smiling smiley

Cheers,

Rick

Preserved the outer wheel well with rust restorer and undercoating spray. Repaired the rust in the right rear fender with a patch and welded, just need to check and final weld. Found the same rust on the right rear quarter panel window like I did on the left. Makes for alot of small metal piece fabricating

Tried to see if a seat I found from a late 80's Prelude would fit (no). Rebuilt the right rear brake wheel cylinder and replaced the handbrake cable. My brakes definitely seem to work better (although initial pedal is still a bit soft and I finally have a working parking brake.

Nice, the clouds always seem to block the view when I come around, same with Mt. St. Helens, make sure the cover is on the MG when Rainier goes, that ash will scratch the paint. ;-)

In Florida we do things a bit backwards. In the summer we put the car up on blocks for annual maintenance and repairs (hopefully in an air conditioned garage). It's just to freakin hot to be out for a drive.

Over the weekend I started installing the new brakes: Slotted and cross drilled rotors, new calipers, new backing plates, new pads on the front and shoes on the rear. Next will be installing new seat belts and a new oil cooler. After that, new telescoping shocks? The list never ends.
