About 2 1/2 weeks ago, I smashed my index finger trying to do something I should not have. It has taken these 18 days or so to get to where I can finally do something without recoiling from every little bump. So.....

I sanded some of the rust around the passenger side. One of the DPO's decided to drill some holes to mount something, then did not seal them when the something was removed. As a result, I have some surface issues needing rectified before they become more serious. Also, took the driver's door apart again to replace the wing window seal.

So today I got my transmission hooked up to the engine using a C-clamp. I have been working on replacing the clutch these past few days and now I just need to to do all the work underneath my car like putting up the brace and also putting he driver side engine mount completely back on.

Just polished and repacked the boot (trunk or whatever any one else calls that spare wheel receptical in a B.

Getting ready for a club run through the hills to a lake with water(rare in Western Australia) that is tomorrow.

Should be great as the weatherman is calling for 25 celsius and sunny.

Autumn is a great time to be in the west.

We are expecting 30 or so classics a few moderns and a good number of "family cars" as it is listed as a family day. (Great in a B if your children are Leprechauns)

Will take some pics should be a great day

I drove to a car show and saw a B GT, a 1934 Magnette Special, a T Monaco, talked to a couple of other car buffs and drove home. It didn't rain (almost) and Bee didn't break down. What a day!

Re Transmission oil it definitely needs engine oil, not gear oil. Mine had some kind of GL3 gear oil and the gearchange was notchy and the OD engaged with a jerk (Not me!). I put in Castrol 10w40 engine oil about 3 months ago and it transformed the car! Gear change is super slick, OD engages smoothly - SO much better! Let's hope the gear oil did not damage the innards (GL oils attack phosphor bronze bushesd etc..)

Now going for a Sunday drive!

Cheers

Yesterday (and continuing today), I confirmed what others have said..... changing the windshield is a PITA!!!!

By the way, this thread would be much more interesting if there were branches below the responses. For example, when I post this, if others could offer advice or comments on my particular situation.

Just saying.

So Michael, just so I'm clear, you now have hood struts on your car?

I took a friend in town from Detroit on a ride up curvey Sheridan Road through all of the North Shore mansions to just over the IL/WI border. About 110 miles round trip.

Added some cold air intake action - may not help, but it won't hurt. simply cut a hole in the radiator support on the carb side. Otherwise all the air coming into the engine compartment was through the radiator, therefore heated air.

Also installed a Weber 38/38 Outlaw, hence a keen interest in supplying more air.

We rid Sir Basil of gremlins in the electrical system. I would like to blame Lord Lucas, but if was from my installation of the new radiator fan last week.

But I did figure out how to use that multimeter in the garage which pointed to the solution! smiling smiley

Took a couple of the non-relevant pieces out from under the hood.

And looked at the rain. Like we did yesterday and we will do tomorrow, and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, if the weatherman is to be believed. angry smiley

I restored my starter. Looks good for a 39 year old starter.

Yesterday I installed my engine and transmission.

We drove Punkin to breakfast this morning and out for ice cream this afternoon. We took turns driving so both Michelle and I could enjoy the drive. In between, there was some work on Maggie B.

A few years ago, the fuel pump quit working, so we parked poor Maggie. She sat in our "agricultural building" on flat tires until earlier this week when we dedided to see if she was worth restoring. After some clean up work, we tried to start her. There was no noise from the fuel pump, so we decided to try some fuel down the Webber. She started at once and ran until the fuel was gone. Since we didn't have a spare fuel pump, we pulled the lawn mower up and connected the Facett pump to the carb in Maggie. After running the pump to get all the air out of the line, we started Maggie up. She ran happily at about 2000 RPM with about 70 psi of oil pressure.

We cant take her out on the road like this because the mower won't do over 30 without coming apart and it won't tow too well. I guess we'll have to buy a fuel pump and then work on getting the rest of the vital stuff working.

Happy motoring!
