Drove PLT to the beach at 6:30 AM for a thorough warm-up,(8 mi round trip), forgeting how packed the beaches are here Easter, before sunup even eye popping smiley

With about 800 miles on my reborn dizzy from Advanced (Thanks again Jeff! thumbs up ), I reset the point gap and timing. Hard to get in there with a regular feeler blade so I ground down the edges of a .016 to a slender size- fits perfect. Got the timing @16 BTDC and idle @850; wow it starts alarmingly fast LOL and runs even better than before smiling smiley

Cruised it over to the family's later for eats and exhaustion from rowdy kids eye rolling smiley

Changed engine side panels, put the manifold and carburator back on, and there's this terrible screeching. Not the water pump, or the alternator; What could it be? Vacuum leak? Help!

I got to drive the GT to go teach on Saturday. It was about 40 miles round trip and was a joy to drive. The route is on back roads and was a lot of fun. My fellow instructors approved of the new-to-us rig.

Today, it was Michelle's turn to drive. We took it out to breakfast and back. Then we needed a break so we had to drive to Baskin Robins with the sunroof open. All in all, an enjoyable weekend with the GT.

We have some minor tweaking to do. One of the tasks is to tune the SU's. I'm going to watch the Jim Twist video about 12 times before I take out the screw driver. (I have an old Unisyn that I used on my old '66 Spitfire, so that part will go OK.)

Most helpful.

I purchased a wood dash kit and new heater knobs (couln't read the old ones). Haven't installed the laminate panels or the new knobs as I could not get the old knobs off.

Thanks for your help and I bought the knobs from SG parts in the UK. Great excahange rate at the moment.

Ran a couple of top-down errands with my father-in-law, then checked the oil and topped it off. (Hey, they can't all be tricky jobs.)

Thanks to Berkley I finally removed the "guess what I am doing" heater dials and replaced them with bright shiny new ones. No more guessing!

Thanks Berkley,

"Now the problem you have is that when you have the unerring certainty of machinery, it is a machine. When something has foibles, it won’t handle properly, that gives it a particularly human quality because it makes mistakes. And that’s how you can build a relationship with a car that other people won’t get."

Finally installed the seats! left the headrests off, looks great IMO... It was a pain, but I'm glad they're in. Replaced rear cylinders, shoes, and hose on brakes. Thought that would fix my problem, but no cigar. Still have to figure out what's wrong... Guess that first test drive in over 20 years will have to wait another week... [sigh]

Changed the SU damper oil from 20-50 to straight 20W after reading that's the recommendation from SU. It always seems to be a trade-off though; now I have no smoke from too-rich on acceleration, but a bit of lag instead, like when I tried Marvel Mystery oil.

I'm thinking the air temps here (75 - 95 F) and resulting underbonnet temps, are too hot for 20W so I'll give it a few more miles then probly back to 20-50. Endless fun huh eye rolling smiley

Learned how to solder my own radiator. Fixed a small leak and added a drain tap while I was at it!

trying to "re-install" seats! the rest of the interior was not bad, but the juggling of all those washers and seat parts is something for tomorrow

Took my 7 year old nephew out for lunch then a ride on some of the local curvy roads. I had to grab a booster seat from my sister's car so he could see over the dash and door.

Then before I headed home I loaded the spare radiator in the back to take in to my local shop for a pressure test. If it tests out I will be swapping out the existing leaky one Saturday.

I drove my '73 MGB for the first time in 6 years! It still needs a couple of interior panals, top, speakers, and glove box door installed. It drives really great. Any recommendations on speakers and where to mount them?
