Sorry, but the only fix for that is an expensive piece of jewelry or a trip for two to Tahiti. Personally I'd go for the Tahiti trip.

I had a transmission leak in the back of my wife's old car during transportation.

Sold the car.

Sorry, not much help. Every time the inside of the car got hot, it stank.

Kelvin.

There are some cleaners that use enzymes to eat up the smelly stuff. They work great on pet stains, maybe they will work on oil.

Simple Green and a CLEAN brush. It will take a lot of elbow grease and plan on using a full roll of paper towels. If that doesn't work put a potted plant on the area!

You could also use a little starting fluid to flush the oil out of the carpet fiber and into the pad, but you house will stink and be pretty explosive for a bit. My oldest wiped vasoline all over the carpet when he was little and the ether pushed it through to the pad. Of course you could call the carpet cleaners and have them out.

I would soak up as much as possible with paper towels and then the best all purpose spot cleaner I have used is called "Spot Shot". I haven't used it on trans fluid, but it's never failed to clean anything else out of my carpet. I buy it at Sam's.

Another alternative is to dye the carpet Red to match the transmission fluid.

Other then that...your boned!

Shop vac to get most up of the oil up. Then clean up with the others suggestions. Or, maybe it is time for new carpeting.

Strategically place an empty bottle next to the puddle and have her knock it over...

"Honey, what have you done?"

Then Run.

What type of floor is under the carpet? Concrete, you will never get it out completely. Wood, you will never get it out completely, but you floor will never get too dry.

Honestly, I think the guys are right, time to either run or buy her a new floor. See MG's really are expensive!

Two things you can try, no guarantees, are Brake Cleaning Spray or lighter fluid. Both of which will act to "dry" the oils in the fluid and give you the chance to blot it out of the carpet.

Three warnings.

1) Test a hidden area of the carpet to make sure it does not remove the colour or dye of the carpet.

2) Open the windows and get lets of fresh air into the room and let it ventilate for at least 4 hours while the "cleaning" fluids continue to evaporate.

3) Do not smoke when doing this or you will have more than carpet to worry about - lol.

Pergo laminate. Very tough, and looks very nice. Much cheaper than a divorce.
