Coil on 71 bgt #1

The coil I need to replace is a 12 volt Lucas coil with a small wire(resistive?) going into the wiring harness. Suggestions to replace? Thanks again!

One that has "use with external resistor" printed on it when there is an exturnal resistor in the circuit.

Hate to Say How I Fixed it #3

This is a bit embarassing. The coil has 3 metal prongs on the bottom. Small beige wires are attached to two of the prongs, nothing to the 3rd prong. The small metal leader from one of the wires attached to the coil was dirty and appeared loose. Cleaned it and slipped it back on---instant fire and ignition. Why didn't I check such a simple goofy thing first. Sorry to take up everybody's time on this.

Thanks everyone for the education on coils. So many times it turns out that a problem is such an overlooked simple loose connection. I must have been out in the sun too long yesterday.

I still wonder about the 3rd prong #7

Nothing at all is attached to the 3rd prong on the bottom of the coil. Is there supposed to be? Wiring diagram shows what may be a ground to the distributor?

I don't think it's a big deal Sam. I think I have an empty connector on mine too, but there were only so may things to hook up and when I ran out of wires I figured I was done.

There is no third wire. What you have is a coil that wasn't original to MG's. Not a problem just has an extra spade connector.
