front end rebuild

Posted by blake
What rubber bushings do I need to replace an my front suspension?
I know about the A-arm bushings V8 type, The sway bar bush stock type, but what about the shock fulcrum pin bushing as VB calls it or is it a bearing as moss calls it? Should I change them?
What all should I replace, the King pins should be in good shape as the car has only 66K on it and the front is tight when driving. But the rubber a-arm buskings are shot. Car gets squeaky at front but when I WD40 the A-arms it stops for a while.

You for sure want to get the upper fulcrum bushings. I would recommend you get the upper fulcrum pin as well. Another thing I would get is the distance piece ,seal support, thrust washer, and lower fulcrum pin. These are item # 53-57 in VB book. Also look at your A arms real close for the small hole being egged out.
Thats what I needed to know I can put in the order. Also got to rebuild brake master cyl.

Thanks Tom........

Good luck on the Master cyl. I haven't had any long term luck rebuilding them. Matter of fact I don't do it any more.
but they are sure proud of the new ones. I have not checked the price at the local part houses yet. Will check that out tomorrow. The rebuild on the cluch m.c. has held so far..........

The clutch is a lot easier than the brake, and if the clutch fails it want cost you your life.

Blake if you have a MC with a vaume boost I was told my many people (Tom included) they are very tough to do and do not seem to last. Another alternative, I found a place which bored mine out and lined it with a stainless steel sleeve, then replaced everything. It was about 2/3 the price of a new one and is supposed to be better then new.

name of the place that did the boring & sleeving? or does one just check around for local machine shops. Thanks

I think Brit-tech or the Proper MG offers a boosted brake MC for less than the replacement stock part. I use it, and the uprated cylinders at the wheels from VB. Several others here talked me out of a rebuild. If you can't find the part, let me know and I'll dig out the receipt.
Also, Get the fulcrum pin, you'll probably have to cut the old one off. While you're at it, add the heacy duty shock valves to the front shocks and maybe the 550# springs. The springs lower the car, so you might want the lowering kit for the rear-end, but then you get bit hard by the "might as wells". Good luck.

The place is up here in Ont. John Stuart in Stoney Creek, they ship all over, the cost would have been about $140.00 American, so far it works good.
