1980 MGB For Sale - $5750 (2 replies)

After a lot of thought and consideration, I am sadly choosing to sell my 1980 MGB. part of the reason is debt the other part is to help save my marriage.

I am negotiable on the price. I bought this car 5 years ago and have been restoring it over time.

I am at a point where I have too many projects and not enough room for all the parts and cars so I am selling all but one of my "toy" vehicles.

That being said let me tell you about all the in's and out's of this car.

The car is originally a California car, the previous owner bought it there and then eventually moved to Washington State. After that he was transferred and stationed in Georgia which is where I bought it. I brought the car out here to Texas when I moved out here for work. This car is a RARE overdrive car (it has a switch in the gear shift to flip it into overdrive). The overdrive works perfectly. This is also the last year this car was manufactured for the U.S. market.

The car has had almost everything replaced in it.

Paint is in good shape (Not perfect but very good)

The engine is new and runs great. Has good strong compression and oil pressure.
The carburetors were replaced with the twin HS4's (recently professionally rebuilt)
The distributor was just rebuilt by Jeff at Advanced Distributors (He is world renowned for being the worlds best Lucas distributor re-builder)
Alternator is new, Battery is new. Heat works great.
New Fuse box and new wiring harnesses throughout the car.

New wheels and tires, new CANVAS (not vinyl) convertible top.
Front air dam.
Brand new rear lighting.
CD Player with Aux input and Sirius Satellite radio (installed and ready)

New ignition switch, rheostat, hazard switch, lighting switches, etc/

Seats re-upholstered and heated seats were added. Yes, heated seats. New door panels and carpeting, including trunk carpeting. Car is soundproofed.

New front and rear speakers and small subwoofer so you can hear it on the highway.

New fuel tank and sending unit.

New windshield....As you can see the list goes on.

As far as current condition goes. I do not have a lot of time these days and a couple months ago is when I started replacing the wiring harness. It is hooked up and ready to go but needs to be cleaned up for appearance some and the interior needs to be put back in it. Once you do that, I would say it probably needs to be timed but will be a good nice running car.

What will still need to be done (other than putting the interior back together) is the resonator under the drivers side has a hole in it and would need to be replaced or straight piped (it's about $75 to replace parts and labor).

I know what this car is and I know I have a lot more in it than what I am asking. If you want a great little car that will require just a little time to put the interior back in and you can still upgrade other things as you drive it (only if you want to) this is the car for you.

The pictures show it before the car was re-wired and the interior out of it.

Hi All,

There's an old guy out this way that runs a junkyard of sorts. Over a year ago I happened by there and discovered he had a '52 MG TD sitting there and it looked pretty decent to me. I was in the midst of building my B at the time...and he wanted a fortune for it, so I kind of filed it away thinking I'd check on it later.

The other day I went over there. Turns out he still has the ,52 and he also has a '53! I also learned that he's dropped his price. He wants $15k for both of them. Personally I think that's still a bit high.

The cars have been sitting over 20 years and will need to be restored. They appear to be mechanically complete. The '52 has no interior. The '53 has an interior, top, tonneau, side curtains, owners manual and crank, but no title.

I took a friend who'd restored a TF long ago out there yesterday for a look and he told me that the bodies of these cars are in "excellent" shape. No dents or serious rust and the woodwork on the '52 is in really good shape. I can't vouch for the wood on '53 because all it's all covered up by the interior, but if the exterior is any indication then I'd say it looks promising.

I've spent the past day or so scheming up ways I might acquire these cars, but my wife has informed me that doing so could "negatively affect our relationship", so I give up. The best I'll be able to manage out of all this is a vicarious thrill, so I thought I'd share this with you gentlemen in the hope that these cars will find their way out of the junkyard and back onto the street in the hands of my fellow AMGA members.

Please PM or call me (202.669.9956) if you'd like more info about these cars. I'll post some pix here in a little while.

Thanks...Jim Holloway

I sent a PM looking for some used parts while I was in town for a conference this weekend to two members in the San Antonia area. No only did they each reply, but my message was forwarded to other local MG club members and 2 of those guys called me offering items they had for sale.

What a nice way to demonstrate Alamo (and Texas) hospitality! I asked the former president of the local club to pass along my thanks and I wanted to post it here as well.

Having those stickers on the left side of my B's windshield blocks my view. Can I move them to the passenger side or am I asking for trouble?

All I've been able to dig up so far is that the registration sticker should be at least six inches above or next to the state inspection certificate.

Hi All,

Just wondering if any AMGA members are thinking about making the trip to Dillard, GA for MG 2012. It's still a pipe dream at this point, but I am giving it some serious thought.
Hi All,

I just came into possession of a type D OD gearbox for my '64 B. Can anyone recommend a local mechanic who can do an evaluation and the necessary refurbishing for me. I was thinking of taking it to Ron Shimek in Austin but I thought I'd check here first.

Thanks...Jim

Anybody around here thinking about making the trek out to MG 2011 in Reno this coming June? Its looking like I'll have my car ready by then and I'm seriously thinking about going. Might be fun to get a group together to make the trip.

The directions seem simple enough...take US 83 north to Garden City, KS, then hang a left onto US 50 (the Rally to Reno route). For the return I was thinking about driving the Pacific Coast Highway all the way south and following US 80 (or whatever's left of it) back to Texas. That part's a pipe dream though. I'm not yet sure I'll be able to find the time to do it all.
