Ok, I have the boots, but... we all know we end up tearing up parts when we do this, so, ball joints, tie rods, and anything else that would/should be replaced. Where do we get the parts? Are old Mini parts the same? Someone guide me in the right direction here. thanks... I see Mini Mania sells a front rebuild kit for the old Mini's.???

Hi All, I made some shirts for some guys on the Midget forum a couple weeks ago and now I'm making another that you all might be interested in. Price is $15/shirt + $5 shipping per shirt unless you order 3 or more, then just add $2/per each additional shirt.
Here's a mock-up on an Anvil 980 T Shirt in "Lake", the color these will be printed on:

and here's how the printer will print the image:

And finally, a picture of my fiancee in an A-Series shirt that I sold on the Midget forum:

MG 1100&1300
And a whole host of Austin 4 passenger vehiles.

The cost to return these is out of reach in terms or practicality.
Retail from the maker delivered to the USA is about $100 each $200 total. I will sacrifice the pair at $90 delivered USA and at cost -$10 anywhere in the world. They are black in color and specific to the MG models above and many Austins...email preferred PM is you prefer. I must sell or return these this week.
if anyone has sealed their own mg1100 or austin america gas tank can you tell me how you released the internal filter mesh basket? I have the pipe loose but it goes through the plate in the picture to the basket. the plate is spot welded to the bottom of the tank.
You can't order MG 1100 seat kits from Moss Motors, so you might one day have to make your own. I have zero sewing experience but I wasn't going to pay a couple grand to have custom work done. So far I've made the bench seat and wanted to post my experience, warts and all. In the coming weeks I will attempt the front buckets.

If you are going to attempt this, you will need a walking foot industrial sewing machine. You can get these on craigslist from $100-$300. If you're familiar with a normal home sewing machine, you know there is a little thing under the presser foot that drags the material through (the dog?). A walking foot machine basically makes the presser foot move along with that thing under the presser foot. It keeps multiple layers of material nice and flat. You'll also need a welting foot.
Also have had difficulty finding a wiring harness for this car and was wondering if anyone had any leads on where to buy one. Previous owner poorly wired the car and I am hoping to correct that before it becomes a bigger problem.

Help!

I have a 1966 Riley Kestrel 1100 which was imported to the US from
Auckland NZ so it is RH drive. I understand from my BMC 1100 parts
catalog that the Riley shares parts with the MG 1100, etc.

The part I'm looking for is Part No. 8G 6021 "Cover - direction indicator
switch". My Riley has undergone a full restoration with the exception of this
part -- there is something jury-rigged in place BUT not the correct part.
Can anyone lead me to a parts depot in the UK that would supply BMC 1100 parts?

The other parts I'm looking from are passenger-side trim pieces (chrome) that
grace the side of the car. I have some small dings in them and wish to replace.
Are these parts easily reworked or benched rather than replaced? Has anyone
refurbished these pieces successfully?

Thanks, Ken White

Hi!

I'm finishing up the interior on my '65 MG 1100, and I'm looking for a few parts. In order of priority:
(1) Two lamp holders (and sourcing for lamps) for the strip speedo. These are, I believe, 5/8-inch OD. What I have are 1/2-inch, and too small. For later models?
(2) Blue dash light lense for hi beams
(3) Red dash light lense for ignition
(4) Latch for driver's side vent window
(5) Horn push in good condition. Mine's bleached, ruining the effect.

Thanks! I live in San Diego. Happy to pay a reasonable price, and, of course, shipping. Drop me a line if you have any of these, or you know somewhere I might look.

Thanks!
Hap's 4th Annual announcement

Yep, hard to beleive, we have not been ran off from here yet So once again we plan on returning to Carolina Motorpsorts Park for our 4th annual British Invasion at CMP. This is about as laid back of event as it gets, bring your street car (preferably British, but not required) to track on Saturday Nov. 12th, and get to do two 20 minute session on the track in a spirited manner, no helmets required, passengers are welcome to ride alone. We normally meet and park over the near turn 2, near the concession stand, nice restrooms also near by (I know you ladies like such details). Overall it's just a fun time, to get to go out on the track in our little cars, and take a few laps at something much better than a pace lap. CMP is a interesting road racing track, very technical and designed for cars like our LBCs, go as slow or fast (within reason) as you like, for the faster folks, trust me, you'll like this, we normally attack the corners and back off on the straights, you'll be plenty tested. All CMP has ever ask us for is the normal gate fee, I think it is 5 or 10 bucks a head, it cost nothing to do the track sessions. We normally have about 15-20 British cars there, lots of neat stuff, lots of the folks that done this with us, have been with us since the first year, so they must be enjoying, it I know I do, I like seeing the smile on folks faces when they come off the track and start telling you about there time on track, like kids at Christmas Men, women, children, dogs, you name it, you're all welcome.
3rd Annual British Invasion at CMP

When: Saturday Novemeber 13, 2010

Where: Carolina Motorsports Park Kershaw, SC

A rare opportunity to drive your LBC around CMP's 2 mile road course for spirited lapping sessions. Be there around 10:00 - 10:30 am and we will go on track around noon for (2) 20 minute lapping sessions. There is a small gate fee to get in the track, but the lapping sessions are free.

This is an extremely casual and laid back event, everyone gives everyone else a little room on track, you drive at the pace you feel comfortable with. No safety equipment required, roadsters welcomed. I will be the driving instructor and pace car (and it will be brisk pace ), and gave you a few tips about getting around CMP course (I won a few SCCA races there) in a driver's meeting before the lapping sessions.

Hello All,

New to the Forums, but i am chasing some information regarding Hydrolastic Suspension Conversion on my 1969 MG 1300.
I have recently bought this nice little car in working condition however the Norwegian enviroment has been a bit cruel to it! I am wanting to re-vamp the suspension (sitting very very low) but the availability of anything to do with hydrolastic suspension here is near non-existant.

I want to do a conversion from wet to dry but i cant find any information on this conversion, there is lots of gear available for Mini conversions but no information on compatibility of this kit.

Does anyone know if the mini hydro system is the same as the MG 1300?
If not is there someone out there that has a kit to convert the system? how much?

Dont want to pull this car off the road, but some of the pot holes and speed bumps around these parts make my jaw clench everytime i see one!
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to introduce myself since I'm new. I have a 1965 MG 1100, now going through it's second rehab. I first got it around 1997, found in a field in Salem, Or and lovingly restored by a good friend. He put a bigger engine in for me (1400) and gave her new red and white interior to match the new paint job. She was my only car for about 10 years but being an archaeologist I needed something a bit more practical for out in the field. So eventually I stopped driving her and she's been sitting in my drive way since 2006. So now I'm starting the second rehab, though certainly not as extensive as the first. I'm refinishing the steering wheel right now, the varnish had begun to come off from years in the sun. Looking great! Next are the door locks, the front doors won't lock so need to take the panels off and get that figured out, hope it won't be too much of a problem, any advice would be great! Will start the actual engine tune up in the next week or so, with the help of my husband. So it's a big project but I'm so excited and can't wait to make her my town car again!

The ugly one is the left side front on my 63 MG 1100 and the other, for comparison, is the right side front. This has appeared over the last few months, just sitting there. 1) How model specific are the displacers? 2) Assuming it's a lost cause, any used ones available? 3) Any other options? I'm new to the Mini/ado16 parts world so I don't have a clue as to substitutions, etc. other than hearing that the displacers haven't been made for a long time.

There are good clubs in St. Pete and Orlando - both are an hour away. There are no existing clubs specific to British cars in Lakeland, which is right in the middle.

I'd like a club that can occasionally join these others for an activity, maybe do some community work in the area, help each other with maintenance items, and go on area rides for food and fellowship. Lakeland also hosts the Lake Mirror Classic, a regional car show which draws from all over the Southeast in October.

Please PM me if you're in the area and wish to help start this fellowship.

Where are all the jackpoints on ADO16? The owners book only refers to one side point, but the Haynes manual refers to "jacking up the front" - where is this done? The only point I see is the subframe but that seems a bit precarious, especially as the rear suspension is so low to the ground when depressurized as mine currently is. I am also unsure of where exactly to put the jackstands once the front is jacked.

I also hear of methods of lifting the car using rear wheels as pivot and wheelingbout the subframe with the engine, but don't see any example of this in any of the service manuals or online. Has anyone ever removed the engine using this method who can offer advice?

How does one assess a transmission, in particular the AP Auto in the '69 Austin America, if the car is non-op?

Is it necessary to get the motor running first?

Or can one tear down the transmission and inspect visually?

This is my first project car, sorry for the ultra basic question

I just bought an America I'm hoping to rescue, very little rust and nice interior I think it is doable, problem is I hear the transmission and suspension on these cars kill them? Suspension looks good on this one so I'm only concerned about transmission, I want to make sure the tranny is savable before I go two far with the interior, etc.
Thank you all so much

I am looking for any online diagrams of the engine or engine bay... is there anything available? I've ordered a few service manuals and I'm waiting for them to come in the mail but worried they won't get here before the weekend when I'm going to my garage to work on the car..

I have discovered the Austin America USA website which is a great resource but no substitue for a service manual / detailed parts diagram... esp since this is my first attempt at a project and I don't know what most of what I'm looking at is :D

Thanks for all help hope to post progress in the coming weeks!

Not the "vents", those would be the bits you see just below the windscreen when sitting in the car.
Thank you!

New product from British Car Conversions

If I may I would like to take a short survey on a new product that British Car Conversions will be marketing in the spring. This is an upgrade from the present relay center we now market. I sold these to a lot of people who wanted to upgrade their personal cars without altering any present wiring or hacking any original wiring. I need the opinion of the readers here if they would be so kind to suggest a color for the relay enclosure. The base color will be black. It's appearance has the look of the products sold by MSD, Accel and others. There is no other component that has the features of this unit in price and versatility. I'd rather not get someone excited about me trying to make a sale here. That is my main concern. I can only bring new products to the British parts market if there is a real interest. Read my profile for contact information. Below is a list of some of it's credible abilities.

Miniaturized into a 4.00L x 3.50W x 1.125H weather sealed enclosure
Fits in the very smallest places
Powerful, components can handle a total of 160 amperes
LED's on all inputs and outputs to monitor relay function
99% waterproof enclosure
Fire resistant rugged aluminum case, not plastic like competitors
Withstands temperatures in excess of 300 degrees
Dynamic but subtle appearance
Can be mounted on flat or irregular surface in any position
Can be used as a combination fuse center and/or relay center as an option
Unit can be purchased as a kit or assembled
Totally solid state circuitry
Color of your choice as an option
Board is triple thickness multi-layered and is guaranteed for life
All printed circuits are rated to 180 amperes.
Sold with 4 - 30 amp. micro-miniature relays
Impact proof case, high impact circuitry construction
Can use as a trouble shooting device for voltage/open/cotinuity/tracing circuits
Can be used on any 12 volt vehicle
Saves up to 16 wires of hardwiring your electrical system
Optional 5,6,7 or 8 relays available as a future option
Can handle 24 ga. to 10 ga. wire in vibration proof connectors.
Requires no special connectors like similar products
Full instructions included with tool listing for assembly
Priced under all competitors retail prices

Thank you, Dann Wade

Hello everyone, it's time to announce the 2012 Great Scot British Car show. This is the show we have been holding at Furman Universary, in Greenville, SC in conjunction with one of the largest Highland Games in the southeast.

The date of the show is May 26, which is on the Saturday of the long Memorial Day weekend, so there is plenty of time to get here and return home.

This year the featured mark is MG, with a special nod to the MGB, on its fiftieth anniversary.

The website with downloadable registration forms is http://www.gallabrae.com/events/2

I have put the show on the MGE calendar as well.

I hope a good many folks can make it, as we have always had a good time with a nice MG representation.

Thanks,

I did find this one - no affiliation - but thought someone out there might want to rescue it. Seems like a decent price - said it needs a radiator (and someone needs to learn how to spell America).
Good luck,

Although I've been an MG owner for all but a few of the past 47 years, I've never owned an 1100/1300 sedan. Today, while picking up some parts for a couple of my other MGs, I saw an 1100 2 door that's been sitting outdoors, with the canvas sunroof gone, for about 10 years.

My question to you guys is: what parts are available for this model? Body parts? I'm betting it's going to need new floors, at least. I'm a fool for insane restoration projects (I enjoy metal work & welding).

So, please give me the bad news, guys: What's out there?

Thanks

I do intend to upgrade and while I admit I have not been to the wrecking yard to look for a suitable donor I was curious if others here have already. I believe the originals are in the 60 inch area for the fronts..would think a number of J-cars could be a good source, what have some you folks used in upgrades? and in choosing a good retractable shoulder for the front, were the rear belts of the donor also a good choice for the rear seat. There does not appear to be any sign of something attached here but was curious as to what and why...if anything goes here, pictures would be great...thanks

I am in no position to purchase another car, and I have one that's higher up on my list if I do decide that sleeping in the car is a fun prospect, so:

http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/2448793991.html

It's a very original, and quite clean looking America that a fellow in SW New Hampshire seems to have resurrected with the combined parts of two reputedly new cars that were both parked in '72 or thereabouts. The '71 had engine damage when he pulled it apart and the '69 had a cracked head and was in an accident when new. Now the '71 head and '69 block are in the '71, and it's in a primer blue/black.

The stainless trim is not on it, but the holes are still there and he has the trim.

There's some information on Facebook that he posted on the work he has done: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Austin-America-Owners-and-Lovers/214104748621639 (I don't know if you need an account to see it...)

No connection here, except that I think this car is neat and I'd like to see it in the hands of an enthusiast.

Tom

PS: At the very least, this fellow likely has a pile of parts, including the interior from the '69, for anyone looking for them.

PPS: I am about an hour from the car, so if anyone is interested, I can go take a look if needed.

My teenage son and I are looking at a purchase of a 1971 Austin America. Have not purchased yet. Very rust free, engine runs but needs some TLC. It is the 4 speed Automatic. Was stored for 30 years and then pulled out and set outside for 1.5 years. Little water inside as it is in Washington State. I may be paying too much for it, but it seems well spent.

Need some miscellaneous exterior and interior cosmetic parts and some clean up. I have an earlier MG Midget and Sprite.
Looking for information on this type of vehicle in the Seattle / Tacoma area along with anyone with spare parts.

Hi all,

I just scored a 1275 engine from a local seller to replace the bad (no oil pressure) 1100 engine in my 64 MG 1100. I am experienced with some aspects of mechanical repairs, but no experience with rebuilding or installing motors. That said, I need some advise.

First, what "bits" will not transfer over from the 1100? From my research, I will not be able to use the same dual carbs and manifold (carbs will be too small, right?) and I hear the exhaust manifold will not fit the 1275 head. Obviously I will be replacing things like gaskets, clutch, hoses, motor mounts, etc. Any other major differences or parts to get?
