Canada's newest landed immigrants!!

I thought I would share a couple of pictures of the latest MGF's I have imported from Japan.

The one picture is chassis 3060 1.8i Charcoal (1996) grey with red interior - 56,000km

The other car (not pictured) chassi 9397 is a 1.8iBRG (1996) with factory hardtop (for now!) with 27,000km

The cars were picked up in Halifax today for their next ocean voyage from Halifax to st. John's over this weekend!

The guy in Minnesota that I tried to buy a hardtop from last year spent 2 months trying to build a crate.
In the pictures it looked like a box girder bridge.
I got tired of his excuses for not shipping and finally cancelled the sale.
I think he was relieved he didn't have to finish the crate!

I don't think that John will have any problems. A roll of bubble wrap, some corrugated and a few rolls of
packing tape should do the trick if it comes by air.
Unfortunately I don't think there are any direct flights between St. John's and Vancouver so it will need to switch
planes somewhere.::o

Oh the pressure, the pressure..........................

I am awaiting for an engineer to proof the crate drawings. If he comes back and says my drawings are no good then I build the crate
as one never listens to an engineer!!!

Here's a couple of pics of the F's going into winter hibernation. They do not like the cold but going up the hills around St.John's sideways was fun!!!

I would probably receive a pile of broken fibreglass wrapped in a couple of sheets of newspaper and tied with butcher twine!
A couple of years ago I purchased a set of five tires [sigh, fine, "tyres"] from a British firm. They were sent via Royal Mail and so arrived via USPS. I had to go to the post office to retrieve them, only to find they had been sent as two stacks, each held together with a few loops of tape. No wrapping whatsoever. The mailing labels had simply been affixed to the top sidewall of each stack. I was somewhat taken aback until I realized my plan was to subject them to much worse conditions than that during use anyway.

Simon, A few months ago Rimmers quoted me $700. to airfreight a hardtop from the UK to YVR. Not a bad price when you consider the volume a hardtop takes up. That was for a new hardtop. The problem with buying a used one on E-bay is that 99% of sellers won't ship them within the UK never mind internationally. I would probably receive a pile of broken fibreglass wrapped in a couple of sheets of newspaper and tied with butcher twine!
I got the model on E-Bay.UK Mark.
There are usually a few on there. I was able to find one with
It's amazing the number of MGFs that have shown up in Canada over the past year.

Rich, Where did you get the MGF 1/18 scale model?

The red is quite something. is that factory?

What site are you using to track the ship, John? I used www.vesseltracker.com when my car came over. Unlike aircraft, ships are only visible when in sight of land due to the limits of their tracking devices.

After my ship left Yokohama Bay, it disappeared in the Pacific until it made landfall in Mexico a few days later. Then I watched it sail up the coast to San Francisco, enter the Columbia River at Portland then into Vancouver.

Amazing to watch how fast they turn a vessel around at each port.

They are factory called "Fusion Red" - they look pretty good and I was thinking a red softop might complement the car well too although the top on the car is in fantastic shape.

marinetraffic.com tracks the AIS signal and just to let you know ships are required by international convention to transmit AIS until they are in international waters. Some ships leave the AIS on and others turn it off in international waters so they are visible to each other but the sites on the internet use land based receivers thats why the ships disappear!!!

The red interior is nice. I believe that Sean's charcoal MGF on Vancouver Island has a red interior as well.
As a matter of fact I have a 1:18 model of the MGF with a red interior.
Initially I was thinking of installing leather seats in my F but after living with the cloth seats I like them just fine.
I did pick up an NOS seat cover to replacee the one on my drivers seat which is a bit worn.
The ship tracking is pretty cool. When my car came across the Atlantic I was able to track it all the way on the Wallenius Line's
company tracking system. It wasn't a real time update and was only updated a couple of times a day, but it was nice to get an idea of where my car was.

BTW: Skye, if you ever want to take an MGF for a drive give me an e-mail and we can get together. The snow tires are on right now but the handling is still pretty darn good, although nowhere near as good as with the T1-Rs.
8 VINS from each other, one car stayed in the UK the other went to Japan and eventually they end up in Canada on opposite sides of the continent - who would have known!!!
Rich, the hardtop on the green car is really nice, maybe I should keep it..................NO, I wouldn't do that to you!!
