High RPM Miss (2 replies)

Last season I had a high RPM miss that I am still having trouble diagnosing.

Here's what I know-

It's worse when the ambient temp is warmer.

It starts at about 5,000 rpm

When it starts, I can back completely off the throttle, and then when open it completely again it momentarily cleans up as if the bowls refill?

I am running rebuilt HS6 Carbs, new to the car hoping they would fix the issue, mixture seems right on based on the toasty looking plugs. I've tried another set of carbs from a similarly prep'd car that works well and when put on my car, I still have the same issue.

Don't have a heat shield but the bolws are wrapped with heat tape.

Fuel pressure regulated to 4psi. New to the car.

Fuel lines are 1/4 id at smallest point.

Fuel pump is cheapo mr gasket. Bench tested flow is 30 gph. Pressure is said to be over 7psi.

Ignition is set at 32 deg.

Rebuilt dizzy with recommended points (stiffer spring) and new bosch blue coil. I've had this same issue with pertronix.

This morning I will try another fuel pump, maybe two in parallel.

Thanks for your input!

There are no heroics and it's a mixed session with some faster cars.....plus I'm bedding in new brakes and just getting my "sea legs" (first event this year). But you can get an idea what it's like.

The paddock is really full. Lots and lots of MGs.
A little rain on Thursday AM but very nice later. Weather looks decent for the rest of the event.
Morning everyone.

I wish to announce our next major Event - the Snetterton Track Day on Thursday 27th June.

As you can see, unusually it is being held on a Thursday, henc e the advanced warning.
It is the MSV Trackday, an Open Pit Lane Event. Signing on for these Events usually begins around 7:30am with a driver's briefing 8:30 - a FULL ITINERARY can be found HERE

Normally this costs £199, but there is a possible 10% discount available for PHEA's Event, if we are able to have more than 10 of us attend.
One of our members, Fasteddy, has been able to use his past experience and his contacts to secure Exclusive Use of the Archie Brown facility and garages (situated at the end of the pit lane) for PHEA.
This means we have our own entrance/exit for the track, along with our own marshall, scrutinering bay and plenty of storage for tools, tyres, fuel, etc.
We will also supply some snacks and drinks

With any MSV payment taken later, all you need to do is quote "Fast Eddy's Group" upon booking - probably best to book over the phone using the number at the bottom of the page linked above

It was something which fasteddy was able to run last year, but this time we have decided to make it an official PHEA Event. Check out some PHOTOS from fasteddys previous Event HERE

So if you fancy trying something different with PHEA, please join us for our first ever TRACK Event!
Once booked, please let me know by either posting on here or emailing me directly.

This isn't totally motorsports forum worthy but I feel like I fit better with you guys than on the Midget forum. If I posted this over there it would start a debate on the validity of a roll bar and that is not my intent. I know I should be working on the MGB but I know it will not be track ready this season and I do not want to rush the process. So in the mean time I decided to make a few mods to the Midget to make it more track friendly. I am not going to race it but a few track days here and there, and it's always good to have a car to get some laps in with. I am sure there are things I could have done different but I am pretty happy with it all in all. I still need to make the seat mounts and that side bars but the bulk of the work is out of the way. I am a little nervous since I have a bad habit of pushing limits harder when I have more safety gear.

Just sending this out there in case anyone missed it (I got this from others in VRG).

For anyone heading south to Summit Point for the Jefferson 500, you may wish to alter your route:

A truck fire east of has severely damaged a bridge over Rt. 81. It is projected to take 3 months to repair.

Right now, they are detouring southbound traffic off of I-81 at Exit 70, onto I-83, around Harrisburg, across the river onto 581 and then back on to I-81 southbound at Exit 59. I would imagine the back-up's on this detour route are pretty bad -- the traffic along those roads is very heavy on normal days.

Here's the official PennDOT advisory from today:

THIS IS A PENNDOT TRAVEL ADVISORY. INTERSTATE 81 IS CURRENTLY CLOSED IN BOTH DIRECTIONS BETWEEN EXIT 70 AND EXIT 59, UNTIL MONDAY, MAY 13. MOTORISTS TRAVELING INTERSTATE 81 SOUTHBOUND SHOULD USE EXIT 70 TO INTERSTATE 83 SOUTHBOUND. MOTORISTS TRAVELING INTERSTATE 81 NORTHBOUND SHOULD USE EXIT 59 TO PA 581 EASTBOUND. MOTORISTS CAN EXPECT MAJOR DELAYS AND ARE ADVISED TO AVOID THE AREA, IF POSSIBLE.

Hello all,

I'm currently restoring an MGA coupe and decided to make it look like a weekend racer (though it likely won't see much track time beyond the occasional lapping session here and there). You can follow the progress here: http://www.mgexp.com/phorum/read.php?2,2342089

The only competition history for this car was against nature for 30 under the previous owner's wood pile. Since so little of the original fabric of the car remained after cutting the rust out, I figured I could move toward the competition look without destroying originality. Does anyone know which companies typically sponsored these kinds of cars in the late 1950s and early 1960s? I've seen many cars with the mobil pegasus, and many other decals but I'd like to know which would be appropriate.

Cheers,

"Don,
Hello just to introduce myself, Im Toms dad who posts regular on the
forum, as you are aware we have the GT and my 65 Roadster to play with,
I caught a view of your smoked screen/deflector fitted to your race MGB
while viewing your latest post, could you advise me where you had this
item made/purchased???? From Toms threads you might have picked up that
my 65 MG is now "receiving some treatment" and we are struggling to get
hold of in the UK a screen deflector similar to the items fitted to most
SCCA cars on your side of the pond!Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Keith Brooks."

Hi, Keith, good to hear from you. Actually I am in the middle of fabricating this. i looked around at the products available and thought I could do better myself. This is 1/8 inch lexan, very easy to work with.I purchased a 52x 23 flat sheet of light smoke lexan and cut it to the shape I wanted. I plan to radius the corners in front of the driver, and raise the trailing edge somewhat with brackets bolted to the front roll hoop. This will provide good gradual laminar flow and a partial tonneau to move air as smoothly as possible over the cockpit. It will facilitate the placement of a wide-angled mirror out of the airflow on the front roll hoop. I will post more pictures as I progress. It is installed with blind nuts for easy removal.
My 74 bgt is all stock except for poly bushings on the front suspension and my front springs are yellow (previous owner installed them) not sure if they are stiffer or whatever, but I am pretty sure they are not stock. I was getting really confused sifting through the 300 some od pages of the scca rulebook. any help would be great!

Guys,

First a bit of background:
While my car has been off the track - and with an interstate trip coming up - I have been playing with my car trailer. A vague mention to my neighbour about how a covered transporter would be great (especially with an open car on long trips) led to him offering me enough "rubberised canvas" material to cover my current trailer.

He is a delivery truck driver and his company is going to replace the "curtains" on his truck with new ones because they are changing their corporate livery. And he says I can have his old ones for free.

Then he calls me over to give me some more material a mate of his dropped off. One huge sheet (with a corner chopped out) that would do much of the job again. So, basically, I have this bit in hand.

I am assuming this stuff is expensive and would be the major cost in such a project. It is damn tough and is designed to travel long distances. It is a little bit of a worry that it is also really heavy.

Looking for ideas I saw this trailer on eBay, that just sold today for £2,050.00

BB and I recently, spent a good bit of time on the SU needle chart looking at .100" needles and charting one against the other.

I running a a RC fixed needles with the jet .130"-.140" down, jets are unaltered .100"
I'm seeing 1250-1300 on both EGTs, 12.5 on AFR. I likie :)

BB and I must have charted most of the needles on the chart listing, and could not find a richer needle than my RC, RV, and a couple more, numbers I don't remember at the time, BB has it all written down, were other richer needles, but no where as rich as RC.

I'm happy with the fuel mixture, although I do adjust for the weather slightly.
OK, your turn, tell me what needle you are running, and what data you are seeing.

Well the engine installation is 90% complete, it took longer than normal, because I have been making subtle changes to the car, and so as i would see something I wanted to address in the ways of fabrication, especially thing that make the car easier to work , we would address it and take care of that.

I added a puller fan to the back of the RD radiator, and we mounted the radiator slightly forward of stock to give us a little extra room for the puller fan. I ended up making to cut at the very edges of both sides of the radiator shelf, about 1.5" back, close to be parallel with the sway bar, rather than completely cutting this out and being leaving it with a sharp edge, I just made the two cuts inward, then cut a piece of 1"x 1" square tubing 19" long, and slide in under the shelf and clamped in place then use a leather shaping hammer to brake the shelf section I had cut the two slots in down 90 degrees, so no sharp edge, and if anything, we made this area strong by adding a 90 degree brake in it, this worked better than we could imagine, like i had did it with metal brake. Now with modification, it is somewhat like telling lie :), if you make one modification, you more than likely will have to make another one to work with the first modification. Ok, so now the radiator was 1.5" forward and that was going to give us the room we needed for the fan, but now the radiator filler neck on the RD radiator was going to be blocked by the radiator support, so I made spacers out of aluminum tubing, with the ones on the bottom longer 1.5" and the pone on the top only .750", so we have a very slight lean in the radiator, and the filler neck is away from the radiator support now.

I did alot of work to the exhaust system, just getting it to fit better and be easier to work with, I think after this race I'm going to remove the header and try a new DIY ceramic coating, I've been checking out, Ceracaoat, it supposedly is good to 1800 degrees, and it cheap enough ($70 a quart) to buy enough of it to be able to re-do later if needed. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has used this product.

The dash and rewiring job is almost complete, Freddy T. has worked his ass of this job, but it all very nice and straight forward now.

OK, with the radiator mounting mods and the puller fan, I wanted to be able to still easily access the front crank bolt with a 1/2" ratchet and 1-5/16" socket, to be able to turn the engine over by hand for valve adjustment, and such. I modified one of my 1/2 drive 1-5/16 socket to make it even more low profile than it was and you can see I have plenty of room to access the front crank bolt :)

I still have more to do, but all the pieces of the puzzle are falling together, and the list is getting shorter. Lots of subtle changes, that most people may never even notice, except if you have to work on the car, then they will put a big smile on your face :)

The car is supercharged and dynoed at 160rwhp at the moment with a 3.9 Salisbury axle. We mainly use the car for street, sprints and hill climbs with a small amount of track. With the LSD I am hoping to stop single wheel spin off the line.

I sprint my MGB in the MGCC Luffield speed Championship.

Looking at the spring pans on the lower wishbone of the suspension I can see it is well polished where the bump stops would contact. This leads be to believe that on some corners the outside front suspension is coming into contact with the bump stop. Am I correct in believing this will be promoting understeer?

As I am running the thickest ARB the class allows I am limited to changing the springs or loosing a bit of rubber from the bump stop. I have seen comments on this site about not using too low a ride height on standard stub axle/ king pins. How low is considered OK?

So my thinking is towards harder longer springs. The garage mouse used the notebook that contained the spec of my current springs for its bedding so I am guessing they are 550lb lowered (33cm wheel centre to wheel arch lip). Would moving to 660lb make a big difference?

"Motorkhana is a low-cost form of motorsport, unique to Australia and New Zealand but similar to autotesting in the UK and Ireland and somewhat similar to autocross in the US. It involves manoeuvring a car through tight tests as quickly as possible - one car at a time - on either dirt or bitumen surfaces."

Hi all,
Ive been having a think about the rear brakes for the 65 roadster race car, we unfortunatly cannot fit rear discs like we did on the GT. So i was thinking about what can be done to get the most out of them. Now thinking back to prior experience with minis common mods were, drilling the back plates (like some Huffaker MGB rear plates ive seen), having cut outs machined into the face of the drum e.g. 4x 1/2" holes or more for venting plus a little lightening, drilling diagonal grooves along the inner friction surface of the drum and of course adding ducting to the drums.

Just wondering out of interest what people have tried in the past?

Kind regards

Rick Morrison told me yesterday that entered the racer earlier this week, and was sent a email stating he was on the waiting list, then received a email yesterday that he was now entered. So if you are planning on a last minute entry, go for it, VRG will refund your money if don't show, or turn a wheel on track, but I don't think you even have to pay until your entry is accepted.

I also talked to Fred McConnell Sr. yesterday, his home track is Summit, so he knows everyone that works there, and keeps up with the happenings there, he says the MG reserved paddock space is the grass area, so for any of you that put something down when paddocking on a grass area, bring it, that's where we will be paddocked.

Freddy T. and I worked on the race car all day yesterday, he, was mostly working on the rewiring job, and all that associated with the new dash. The motor got sat in last weekend, and I have been taking my time installing everything, using the extra time to modify things as needed to get a better fit and finish. Today, I'll go back at it again, got one little spacer piece to to make for the rear muffler hanger, and then I'll be working on the carb side of the motor, same deal making small fit and finish changes, and tidy things up a bit. I got a bunch more things I want to change , but some will have to wait until after this race, but slowly putting my stamp, and the way I do things on the race car.
Ion-sensing crank-fired ignition (10 replies)

This is not really motorsports related, but I'm posting here because I think the interest and reception will be higher here than on the main board.

I have successfully grafted the ignition system from the Saab Trionic 7 onto my B. For those unfamiliar with the Trionic ECUs (which is most everybody in the world), it has a crank-fired, capacitive discharge, coil-on-plug ignition system. One of the novel things it does is sense ping/knock/detonation and misfire on a per-cylinder basis through the spark plug by measuring the ionization current after ignition. Saab was the pioneer in this technology, and even today it is only found on a few BMW V10s, H-D motorcylces, a few Izuzus, and the latest Ferrari engines.

Despite the technology, from a component point of view it's a pretty simple system for ignition. 60-2 tooth electromotive-style trigger wheel, crank position sensor, MAP sensor, intake air temp sensor, coil pack, and the ECU. Software for programming the ECU is open-source and quite easy to use.

For the first few revolutions when the engine starts, it operates in wasted-spark mode until it senses (through the plugs) which cylinders are firing. After that it fires only the right cylinders. So no cam sensor is required.

Road tuning involves taking your best guess at an ignition map (which is two-dimensioned RPM vs. mass air flow derived from vacuum and temp) then driving the car. The ECU generates an overlay map of where it detects detonation conditions, at which point you can retard the timing in those areas of the map. If your map is pretty close, the ECU will tune itself by retarding spark automatically (to a point). This also helps protect against a bad tank of gas. You can also see aggregate information about which cylinders are pinging to help diagnose plug, fueling, or cylinder/valve issues.

For those of you that are still asking "Why?" the answer is "Because it was there." On the workbench, that is. I had most of the parts as spares for my Saab daily driver and thought it would be an interesting intellectual exercise to see how well it worked. An the answer is pretty damn good. Perfectly smooth under power and a rock solid idle. The "Tri" in Trionic denotes that one box controls ignition, fuel injection, and boost control. So you see where this is going...

Hi all

Spent the day making the long circuit front valence, the problem with our other red Sebring style valance was on long sweeping corners we were starting to experience front end lift. The question was what to do about it, I had the same problem on my fast road GT during laps of the Le Mans circuit a few years ago. For last years Le Mans classic I tried a Special Tuning style front valance which did help a little and I bought a spare for the race GT with the idea of fitting a splitter at the bottom edge.

However thinking about it logically over the last few months or so I though this probably wasn't the best solution, so I came up with the valance as shown below.

Also shown are our new race belts that have just arrived!

I had my engine rebuilt over the winter, new pistons, rings, bearings, uprated oil pump...
All the work and parts were from well known mechanics and vendors.
Before starting for the first time, I used the Acusump to pressurize the system, with 4 quarts of
Lucas Oil 20-50 break-in oil, and finished toping it up with the same oil, WIX racing oil filter.
At the first start-up I was getting about 50-55 lbs of oil pressure, Auto-Meter electric gauge, same on the Acusump
gauge.
This seemed kind of low, I ran the engine for about 1/2 hour reving between 2000 & 3000 rpm.
I replaced the new stock oil pressure relief spring with a Moss Motors uprated oil pressure relief spring, stiffer and slightly longer.
Restarted engine, it made no difference, still about 55 lbs, again the engine speed was less than 3000rpm.
Any ideas of what I should do?
The Lucas breakin oil looks kind of thin for 20-50
Should I take it to the track and putt around a bit and then change to regular 20-50 racing?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
I need a male conical flare inside a female threading on the union side and a flat flare inside of a female threading on the gauge side. Swivel fitting would be nice, too. I think I'll try Pegasus racing this time, as they seem to have a more comprehensive selection, but can anyone recommend a specific part? Thanks in advance.

Right guys now the GT is race ready, me an my dad will be spending some more time on the FIA roadster which has been a little neglected while we have been finishing up the GT.

Essentially shell wise, rear roll cage is in place, front needs fitting. We have just had a new aluminium bonnet painted last week as the last bonnet (MGC style) isn't FIA legal.
Suspension is sorted, I'm waiting for a race spec dizzy from Jeff of advanced distributer fame as we have to run points on this car. MGB SC CR box is waiting for the engine.

The question is what diff to fit??? Limited slip diffs are allowed as are any other sort for the banjo axle. My GT is running a welded diff but the roadster is a very different car,
Minimum ride height of 100mm, tall and very ungrippy L section Dunlop historic control tyres, no rear ARB or traction bars....

What do people think?

Hi all,

I've been offered a set of split webers by an old friend who has started selling period tuning parts for MGs, triumphs and Minis. I'm hoping someone out there has had some experience with them as iv never ran a car with them on. I'm specifically looking at a comparison between split and single webers. In theory I'd have thought you may get a combination of the benefits of the Weber plus the straight shot to the ports benefit of SU's ?? Plus since we would have to make up the manifold from scratch you could make it any length, shape, cross section you wanted.

Any advice as always is very much appreciated

I have removed my alternator and now run a belt only between the crank pulley and the water pump pulley. Finding the proper fit has been trial and error. I have found one that fits. The deflection is 1/8th inch.

I found an authoritative source which said that the amount of deflection varied based on the distance between the pulley centers. On my car this is 7 inches. The formula according to this source is 1/64 of an inch deflection per linear foot of distance between the pulley centers. That comes to 7/64, which is about 1/8 inch.

Does 1/8th inch deflection sound OK for this application? This varies from the usual ""about half an inch" for general belt tension, but surely the short length between pulley centers would have an effect on that.

The last one was a V8 blown to pieces. This one was not as dramatic but devastating just the same.

Three laps at moderate speed because the engine was running a little rough, first time out since last year, and I just wanted to run her around and see how she felt/looked afterward.

Third lap, smoke from under the bonnet - so in case I was dropping fluids on the track I pulled off line to limp home. Oil pressure disappears and I kill the engine and roll to a stop at a flag point.

When I eventually get back to my garage/trailer, I lift the bonnet and find the 2 litre catchtank full of oil and the engine bay coated in oil (the hose off the breather has eventually blown off). That brand new oil is meant to stay contained IN THE MOTOR!

No nasty noises from the engine. And a lot of sage guesses from all and sundry.

I pulled the head off today (being the faster option rather than pulling the engine) and expecting a piston with a hole in it or a broken ring causing havoc, this is what I find....

NOTHING (of particular note). Feel free to discuss the discolouration on two of the pistons.

Tomorrow it will be sump and bottom end inspection.

Anyone want to guess what I will find or what pressurised the crankcase to this extent?

This stuff is starting to annoy me.

Hi Guys,

As i mentioned on previous threads i wasn't too happy with my first air box design therefore on the theme of contiuned small improvements before the first race, i decided to build another air box. The issues i had with the first were four fold, 1) Insufficient volume of air within the box 2) Insufficient filtering 3) The need to make the air around the intakes as still as possible 4) Try an cool keep the air as cool as possible

With these factors in mind i have increased the size of the box, included one of K&Ns latest generation of filters, redesigned how air will enter the box and added external thermal blanked covering to the box design.

I started the cardboard prototype a week or two ago but work has led to some delays in actually starting the build proper until today, below are some pics of different stages of the construction. Back to work at the hospital tomorrow but i should have some time thursday pm to finish the air box hopefully.

Will keep you all posted
Thanks

Pushrod adjuster ball/socket fit issue (38 replies)

Ok, I haven't posted for a while but I ran across another question concerning tubular pushrods.

I am back to running stock rockers and I installed a set of moss "uprated" pushrods and ran the engine for about 15 min around the neighborhood. The valve lash changed from .015 to .065 in that time period as the socket on the pushrod is slightly too small and the ball on the adjuster is larger and as it wears ever so slightly it moves down into the pushrod and increases lash. This was last fall and I finally gave up and let the car sit for the winter.

Now I am back to looking at it again, and straight up, the sockets on the moss pushrods are too small for the MG adjuster ball. I blued the parts and the pushrods ride on the rim of their socket on a tiny 'knife edge of material. I bought another two pushrods to check and I found the same thing. I checked about 6 different adjuster balls from 6 different sets of rockers MGA/MGB I have laying around and all are the same thing.

Why is this? Has anyone else found this?

So next question, if the Moss tubular pushrods are crap what should I use? Can I use stock pushrods with stiff race springs? Is there a pushrod that I can get that actually fits properly? Am I going to be forced to get custom length pushrods? I think the stock "long" pushrods might be a touch too long based on how much I shaved off the deck and head. I probably lost 1/8" between the head and block.

Advice/answers needed - street -> track setup? (4 replies)

Hey everyone, thought I'd stop in for some advice on my MGB.
I took a break on my build since I've been taking care of my parents. Now that I've saved up some money, I thought it might be a good time to get back to work/take my mind off things.
I completed my '79 B 5L rover v8 build last year and I've driven it around a bit. I've decided its just not that what I need on the street and since I have a 3.5L B, I'm going to change direction to more of a track event vehicle.
I've done a fair amount of research but still have some questions to finalize mainly suspension/brake components.
My current setup - Front suspension: 550 lb/in springs (couldn't find the part # - but they're 2 1/4" drop), Polyurethane bushings, stock sway bar, lever arm shocks in good conditon. Everything else has been replaced with new stock parts or 'restored'. *shortened bumpstops
Rear suspension: 93 lb/in (2" drop) reverse eye springs, rebuilt lever arm shocks from the '72, polyurethane bushings, fab-tek traction bars, and the front spring mounting points have been cut/reinforced in order to fit the traction bars. *shortened bumpstops
Brakes: rebuilt and new everything. Only non-stock parts are V8 front pads, SS front flex lines, and cross drilled rotors(I know, but they were free!).

Now on to the questions -
Sway bars: it seems that a stock front sway bar and no sway bar is okay for initial track days. Is this correct? I have a 7/8" front bar available from a chrome bumper - are they exchangable?
Brakes: Although I've read that the stock setup w/ a few upgrades and EBC yellow pads is very good - I'm really concerned with brake fade. Is my brake setup going to last out at VIR for a 25 minute session or should I just upgrade now?
Shocks: I'm planning to get the fronts revalved by Peter C. - what about the rears? should I stick with the stock valving or revalve? As is, I feel like my current setup is overly stiff in the rear(compared to the front). What is the consensus on the adjustable units? More of something to just tinker with?

*Since altering the rear spring mounting points my car has a slight bit of reverse rake. Unfortunately it seems I can only lower the rear or raise the front. I figured that dropped spindles would add some front camber and sort out my rake issues.
Out of the multiple companies that sell them - are their any noticable diffences in the front height drop?

Sorry for the long post and if you've gotten this far - thanks for suffering through this post!

My outer Tierods are only a few years old. they have no play at all, and are like new. Anybody have these fail? they seem quite robust. Most of the MGA-MGB race cars use them. some use Heim Joints from Dave Headley on the MGB,s. I run a MGB front end in my MGA, and had to trim the inner Tie rods like the other MGA race cars, and I also had to trim some off of the outer Tie rods to eliminate the Excessive Toe Out I had.

Recently bought a set of used wishbones off e-bay, for use in Dave's modified cross-member

All is well, I'm grabbing up the spring pans and pivot shafts, but the arms had a bronze bush for the inboard pivot. These were pretty old, advertised for use from MGTD through MGB, and the wishbones were drilled for a zerk in the enter of the bronzre bush. The had a plate welded onto the front arm, most likely for an aftermarket swaybar, so I'm assuming a prior owner did have performance intent.

The pivots were in good condition, but the grease had pretty much hardened into coal

Anybody see this (I mean in recorded history) before? I've always used Nylatron, so the bush would sacrifice itself rather than the pivot shaft

It was due to be the debut race for my Sebring GT but another suspension set up day is required before being entirely race ready so I'm attending the race but spending the day on the sidelines unfortunately...

I will however take plenty of pics for you guys and hopefully some video too.
I live only 20 mins drive from the circuit an the weather looks like its made a turn for the better after snow yesterday, looks like it might even be Sunny for race day.
It was fun project, because BB and I worked on it together, 80% of what we did, we did working together, where most of the time, the customer is no no where around for the build process. I think BB probably learned a lot, atleast I hope he did, as race engine building is lot more involved than street engine rebuilding, and we became friends through this process.
The only one that seems to match from the Moroso website.

OK, so I have had issues (like a bunch of people) with leaking double bearing rear hubs. I have read a lot of threads with great opinions as to how to keep the hubs from leaking from the inside seal. Now I have decided to try the "sealed bearing" route.

So, my question is: Use the 207 FF double sealed bearing (sealed for life) OR use the 207 F single sealed bearing (one side open).

In my mind, the single sealed version should provde the seal I am looking for, to prevent the gear oil from enterring the bearings. And I could periodically regrease both bearings, inner and outer, when the hub is off. Both bearings are readily available at Autozone.

Any opinions?

Thanks,
The bridge turn and turn 12 took on a different level of commitment back then as compared to now, especially in most “fast” classes. I was able to experience it back then but only in a Showroom Stock Pinto (1973 time frame). Even it became “light” under the bridge.
I received my plastic battery box from Pegasus today as well as the sundries needed to relocate the battery in my 79 Midget to the boot.
Was thinking the drivers side of the boot would be a good spot. Any ideas on how best to mount it to the vehicle? Pics would be great if available!
MG” Featured For 2014 US Vintage Grand Prix

This is just an early advance notice to you. The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) has designated MG as its featured marque for their 2014 Glenora Wine Cellars, US Vintage Grand Prix, the weekend of September 5-7 at Watkins Glen, NY. MG will also be the feature marque for the concurrent downtown Watkins Glen street festival. Plus the MG Vintage Racers have designated it as their "Focus Event" for 2014 - their planning on it has started already. The all MG "Vintage Collier Cup" race for MGs in this event has been designated as the "Governor's Cup" feature race on Sunday. The “Collier Cup” race was established in 1985 by SVRA for just MGs. This event will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the "Collier Brothers Memorial Trophy" race established in 1954 for MGs by the SCCA in memory of the MG racing Collier brothers Sam and Miles. Back in 2004, when the 50th anniversary of that race was celebrated here, 143 MGs came to race at Watkins Glen, and it was also a national gathering for the New England MG 'T' Register and the North American MGA Register. Another large turnout of MGs for this special event in 2014 is anticipated. The following MG race awards are included in the Collier Cup MG race:

- Jack Archibald ‘T’ Cup: First Production T' Series MG

- Bucher/Decker Cup: First MGA

- Denver Cornett Jr. Trophy: First overall MG

- Bill Glanville Cup: First MG Midget

- Collier Cup: Honorary to a MG racer, as voted by fellow MG racers, for best MG spirit.

The announcement of MG as the featured marque was made by Jon McKnight, SVRA Director of Events. This will be an exciting opportunity to celebrate MGs, MG racing history, and to gather with many MG enthusiasts for a very special weekend in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York state, which also affords many vacation opportunities. More information on this event will be forthcoming as it nears. It will be a special event not to be missed! Start your planning now!
Issue is it leaks from the splines in the drive flange. Really, it's not the seal cuz it's all new and still dry. The flange nut has oil hanging on it and has left about a tablespoon of oil on the floor in the past week. Is this a known issue? I've done 3 other boxes in the past w/out a problem. I've thought about using a fibre washer under a thick metal washer under the lock washer and nut then maybe safety wire the nut? Loooking for ideas.

Thought everyone should know about this, esp those in the SW.
Another great loss.
Word is parts and cars are going to the crusher NOW, with the goal of having the whole place bare by Nov.

FRM
From Les B, UK board:
"Les Bengtson, Arizona, USA

The MG wrecking yard in Phoenix, Arizona is projected to close by the end of 2013. After the death of Bob Schaulin last year, his brother, Gilbert, has decided to sell off the entire inventory and move to Colorado where the majority of his family resides.

At the current time, Gilbert is selling off as many parts and vehicles as he can and intends to scrap out any that are not sold. He currently has a relatively large inventory of MGBs (roadsters and some GTs), some Triumphs (a GT-6 and some Spitfires), some Midgets/Sprites, and a few other vehicles. For the first time in over 20 years, he is selling off some of his MGAs and Austin-Healeys.

Many transmissions, engines, and multiple body parts are available. Wire and disc wheels, some factory and after market are available. Almost any part, accumulated over more than 25 years in the business, can be had.

But, parts are being scrapped almost every day as Gil tries to clear out the yard, ship some of the more commonly needed parts up to Colorado, and clean off the property so he can put that, too, up for sale.

Gilbert's telephone number is 602-290-4096. Arizona does not go on daylight savings time. Gilbert can be called between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM Mountain Standard Time. He has been good about returning telephone calls if he is not able to answer them because he is working or with customers.

If you want some hard to get parts, now would be the time to contact him and see what is available. Entire cars are being taken to the crusher, sometimes ones which would be restorable.
The last picture shows our rear window supports, which are sort of NASCAR style alloy retaining strips as the window is LEXAN and the tailgate is Fibreglass the whole assembly needed tensioning as we were concerned about the rear window becoming detached during racing. The strips are yet to be fixed into position and are held by tape to measure spacing. Now its time for a cup of tea!

I've been looking at Tilton units in a 1" bore size, but came to realize they only come with one output fitting. Wilwood makes a tandem unit but the output ports are on the bottom of the MC so that won't work.

In your professional opinion, is the single circuit Tilton MC with increased bore size good enough? Or is it better to go with a Moss type dual circuit replacement?

Thanks in advance,

While I have the floor out of this car I am looking at things that are easier to get with the floor removed and that will require immediate service or upgrade. This brings me to the steering column. My car has just a standard column for a 1969 B. Any idea I have to make a change here is driven purely by one of safety. I can only assume that there have been at least some advancements in the world of front impact and collapsible columns. What are all of you doing in this area? Keeping with stock? Upgrading to one of the many aftermarket suppliers? I would really prefer to not end my driving career with a steering shaft in my chest.

He was kind of hard to miss due to his big, checkered hat and crazy thumb.
I know I've chatted with a few times; nice man. He will be missed.
