Hi all, just finished installing a set of HS4's and a 4-2-1 header in my 79 Midget 1500. As others have said there is a substantial improvement over the Zenith. I did install flat head pistons and a nice road cam so the HS4's were really needed as I drove with the Zenith for a few hundred miles after the rebuild and wasn't thrilled with the performance.

My question is can anyone post a picture of where the choke cable passes through the firewall after they did the mod, that would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Everyone,I am new to this forum and know next to nothing about MG's.I am in the process of aquiring a 1976 rubber bumper midget.I have been pouring and drooling over all the beautiful rides.I will be looking for a lot of guidance in the future,I told my wife that i wanted to get this car and take my time with it and my goal is to have it completely restored in 3 to 5 years.I do have a question on the striping options for the midget in 1976.The car that I am getting has a thin black stripe over a broad black stripe with a thin stripe again on the bottom, extending from the front fender coming back torwards the door and pointing downwards, the stripe runs almost the length of the car.The stripe has MG on it, just past the door . Now the other stipe that I have noticed on some cars is the same, except it say's special instead of MG.I was wandering how many stripe options there was in 1976 for the midget and is the first one that I described (on my car) The norm,as I have not seen this in any pics on other cars. Thanks in advance for any help,Don

I am really excited for this little car. The entire way home I was getting waves and thumbs up. Even had a state trooper ride along side of me and light em up and toss me a thumbs up. I thought I was for sure getting pulled over for not having plates on it on the way home.
Are there any special tools that are REALLY needed (already have a press and gads of hand tools)? The manual always mentions a few but they usually end up being for convenience and not necessity.
I've got a spare transmission and thought I would go ahead and rebuild it this fall as the current one is a bit noisy, but if I need to buy any tools I'll need to start planning (too many projects)..

One of the more fun jobs.

The original emblem was crazed and as replacements are quite inexpensive I changed it. But I didn't want to destroy the original by prying it out, so I used the common method of heating it. Came out easy, looks like they used black RTV to secure it, although this one could have been replaced in the last 38 years or so.

All American car now. Red, White and Blue back there. :)

Need help to put the hood back on then after five months of fixing, I'm ready for a road test.

Edit. Anyone know where I can get some chrome blanking bolts to fill the holes in the front bumper? Moss has some but they are too long, and the local auto parts stores don't carry them.

I am rebuilding a ribbed case transmission to go with a 1275 for my bugeye project, and have hit a snag. While cleaning everything up I noticed that on the input shaft, and gears where the sycronizer would engage, the material was flaking off. Light tapping with a screwdriver caused the whole surface to flake off leaving a nice smooth surface, that is now too small for the syncro to engage. I assume all the gears and input shaft are junk at this point. Is there some material applied to these surfaces during manufacturing, or are they hardened? I looked in the moss catalog, and all these parts are N/A, so now I have to search for some. Are they available new anywhere, or does anyone have any good used ones for sale?

My guess is that it is best to have the motor mounts on their brackets (in the car) and not on the block when you lower the engine in place. Is this your experience? Or should the motor mounts (rubber part) be on the engine block before you lower it in. I hope you all won't laugh at me! It will be an amazing thing if this thing runs when I finally turn the key!

Hey everyone.

Appreciate any feed back you have!

I have a 1972 midget 1275cc. Been running really nice up until a few months ago when it started to be rather difficult to start. It would take more than a few tries to fire it up. I figured my stock carbs were just getting too worn out.

Fast forward to today. I installed a new two barreled weber carb kit with the new manifold. Now it sounds like it really wants to start. Freshly charged battery. But still wont start. I took one of the plugs out and theres no spark going to the engine. I checked the dis cap to make sure that little receptor was still in place and it was. I really want to get it on the road but have no idea what would cause no spark.

Can you help?!

OK I just got the car tagged and took it out for a quick run around the block and found I'd dumped most of the oil out of my tranny. Like an idiot I never checked the rear oil seal on the tranny when I swapped it for the blown one. So it's got to be the rear oil seal, since she's tight as a drum until it's moving.
So my question is, do I have to pull the engine/tranny to replace the seal? Also how does the rear seal assemble to the tail shaft, it looks like a taper/press fit is that it?

thanks, Alex

ETA is it possible that overfilling the tranny caused this? I thought I'd put in the right amount of 20/50 but I could have put too much in. I just took it out for another short run and it hasn't leaked any more.

ETA2, I must say it does sound totally badass with the Maniflow LCB and glasspack muffler, much better than the stock single box it had before

I have a 75 1500 that has a nicely built motor and runs like a bullet but just lately i've noticed the oil pressure dropping to 10 psi after getting fully warmed up and comming to a stop, Now when first starting up it's up around 60-70 psi and at temp and crusing around 40 but i have to say it's a little un nerving to see it drop this low when i stop to idle. I do understand it's pretty normal to get down there when fully hot but this seems a bit tooooo low So, I'm asking what others are experiancing regarding the same issue and or is this pretty much the norm?

Having the engine an oil change, I found there is some differential end play, and I am not sure if I should worry.

I attach a video where you can see the amount of play

Some times I hear a CLONK, so I suppose I have just found the cause. I see that removing the differential means removing both wheel shafts, so it is a mayor opperation. Having to do all that work, it really makes sense to drop to drop all the rear assembly: axel + springs, and take opportunity to change bushes, clean and paint axel and springs, etc....

Taking a quick look at the Moss catalogue, I have been shocked to see the price of reconditioned units depending on the ratio.

An end play as showed on the video, can it be easily repaired or adjusted by a common mechanic?

Hello,
for some crazy reason I thought a needed one more MG/Sprite project.
I just picked up a 62 sprite with a Nissan engine conversion.
It came with the stock engine and trans now my problem is to verify that the extra engine is the stock engine.
I have no use for either the engine or trans but i figures i should know what they are before i to sell them.
I have no idea what they are worth, i was told it was a good running engine but i can not verify anything other than it has good compression.
picture attached of the engine plate but it looks like some of the plate is missing.
thanks for the help

I attached the pic with the dimmer switch so some of you could see what was under the steering wheel cowl. The cowl is a trick to get off over the dimmer and wiper stalks. You have to hold your tongue just right!

I will prob have more trouble with putting the oil gauge back together than installing the speedometer. I will just have to see how it goes! I don't anticipate any prob with the wiring but you never can tell. More about the wiring choices later.

Hi all

Thnx to the members that described how they bought and installed their Speedhut units. They helped me decide on a Speedhut GPS model over the signal generator units.

This may not be a new subject for everyone but I thought it might be interesting for some.

I became tired of having my original speedometer always giving me trouble. Needle bouncing around, cable make a noise, not working if it was too cold or too hot etc etc, I know most of you have experienced the same problems one time or another.

Well, I finally decided enough was enough and purchased a Speedhut model GR338-GPS-16. There were a lot of whistles and bells available but I chose one similar to the original Smiths speedometer. Instead of ordering on line, I called them and a very nice lady helped me through the order process. The shipping took about 10 days.

I chose a GPS model over a signal generated model because I wanted a easy, simple trouble free speedometer which did not require calibration or resetting if I changed tire diameter or rear end ratios. The GPS model will fulfill those requirements. Not to say the signal generated models are not good but they are not for me.

I paid nearly $270 for it but got a military discount of 10% off that price, real nice of them to do that. You have have a valid MIL ID card to get a discount.

The GPS model I chose required a mounting ID diameter of 3 3/8. My 71 Midget ID hole was about 3 1/4 so I had to grind a bit to enlarge the hole to mount the Speedhut. First I tried a Porter Cable air grinder with a carbide cutter but found that chattered too much. I switched to a conical grinding wheel that did the job in about 20 minutes. I will post some pics of the installation I have made so you can see the process. At the same time I am also putting in a new oil pressure/water temp gauge so prob will throw in some photos of that installation as well.

All steps seem pretty straight forward. The instructions are simple enough for even me to follow. I like it that the antenna can be placed most anywhere there is not metal overhead. I plan on putting mine on the trans hump under the carpet. The lady I spoke to said this was an ok place to put it.

Tomorrow I will wire the unit and install the new oil gauge. I will try to attach some pics for you to see how the installation went. I will post additional pics to another msg.

79 Midget, 1500 engine.
Since rebuilding the engine I'm having trouble turning the engine via the crank nut to adjust valves and timing. I used to be able to sneak a set of dogs on the nut and rotate it but that is now a no go. And there's not enough clearane to get my socket on it (engine is in the car).
Any tips on how to do this?

Frustrations are reaching new levels for all involved. A little over a year ago, my wife and I bought a '72 MkII Midget for our granddaughter. She turned 16 yrs old a week ago and got her driver's license but not in that car. The problem is that she can not reach the clutch and brake pedals to be able to drive it. She has a condition known as Turner's Syndrome and will never be very tall otherwise a very healthy normal teenage girl. She will never get more than the 4ft. 5ins that she is at now. We have already added pedal extensions and raised the seat and modified the steering wheel to better accommodate her size. The problem seems to be that she is longer in the torso than her legs. Any and all suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. This young lady is seriously disappointed.
Really like all your advice on all topics here .My question is that my speedo has never worked (either milometer or needle movement)I thought that it might be a cable connection problem. However, my car came back from a service and the milometer now works but the needle spins completely 360 degrees continuously. Could this mean that the cable has righted itself ? Obviously, there is something wrong with the speedo needle mechanism ie worm drive??? I have been given a couple of speedos by a Club member and wonder how hard the yare to replace. Thanks for any advice.

Good to be back. My car runs lousy, and I cannot find the problem - this is a real head scratcher. I know my engine like the back of my hand, and can make her fly every time - been driving her for years and years. I'd like ya'll's advice.

Well, I'll spare you the tales of the AAA tow truck ride home last night, but she ran great that morning. Coming home from work she ran worse and worse, missing, stuttering, misfiring, no power, worse and worse and never died but just backfired to beat the band and undrivable. I figured a dying coil or condenser.....I mean, the way she got worse and worse.

So today I went out to fix her: Here are the stats:

recent head job, good valves, new cometic head gasket, 155 - 160 compression on all cylinders. Valves all gapped 0.012. So it is not in the block.

1. new coil - made no difference.
2. new points, gapped 0.015, new condenser, timed spot on (7 btdc static, 12btdc dynamic) runs better but nowhere near right.
3. good correct plugs, cleaned and gapped 0.025, no difference.
4. new dizzy cap, new spark cables, no difference
5. another dizzy, set all the same. no difference

Well, of course it runs a bit better with the ignition circuit perfect, but it still runs horrible. so I turned to the fuel side.

1. full of Sunoco high test, tank clean as a whistle, good fuel pump, recent fuel filter. that aint a fuel problem.
2. pulled manifold, all new gaskets, perfect seal, makes no difference.
3. carb is old, single SUs4. Maybe a bit of leak around the throttle shaft, jet/needle a bit worn, but it has been that way for a while and has always run very well. Anyway, all clean as a whistle, and tuned with colortune. makes no difference.

could be the old carb, but the way it went from running fine to just barely does not sound like a carb wearing out.

So she is JUST drivable,,, studders and misses, jerks along in funky pulsation. idles well, but just got no high end at all. I cannot think of what I am missing. any ideas? I am bound to drive her to Florida in a few days... So what obvious problem am I missing?

Been having problems trying to bleed that clutch I've been working on for a week now.
I have a vacume and I sucked up the fluid from the bleeder valve on the Slave Cylinder up to the Master Cylinder till it was full. Being that any air in the line would come up ahead of the fluid in the line.
STILL NOTHING AT ALL. I have two different size rubber seals that go on the piston in the master, one is just a little larger (width wise) than the other.
From the way the clutch has absolutely no resistance when I push down on it, it feels like there isn't any fluid comming in from the resivore the the body of the master to be pumped out to the slave. If I have the little bit wider seal on the piston could it be not clearing the hole that the fluid comes in from?
Hoping this is a reasonable question.
By the way it's a 72 Midget.

I have had my 1500 Midget on the road after restoration since spring 2012.
I keep finding my dampers popped up after driving, almost always. I am thinking too heavy oil ( 15-40), but ive always read conflicting stories for weight.
So I went with John Twists advice.
Are they unscrewing, or popping out? No damage to plastic threads, and gasket is ok.
If I do change to a lighter oil, best way to get old oil out? Just take dashpot off?

I'm having a hard time getting my midget ready for the road. Right now I have one tail light and a side marker that work. I have no head lights or brake lights. It looks like my switch is broken. Does anyone think if I replace the switch that I may have a chance to get my head lights working. Also, I have seen a lot of posts about grounds. The only ground I found was from the tranny to the frame or body. How many grounds are there?

Hi all,

Took the Sprite for a nice long drive with the wife the other weekend and I'm pretty sure that she'll never want to get on the highway in it ever again.

Symptom: Every time we would hit a bump/groove/hole in the highway the car would become EXTREMELY unsettled and bounce all around.

What I've already replaced:
Front: New front wishbones, new kingpins, completely new bushings up front all around
Rear: New axle check straps, bushings all around

Note: I do not have a front sway bar

Question: What should I replace next? Do I need new shocks? It's quite terrifying when this happens at 65mph.

Cheers!

Couldn't figure out the best way to put this into the title...

So I pulled my tach to begin the installation of the Speedhut tach that my wife got me for my birthday. I had to move the car mid-installation and realized that the car wouldn't start. It would turn over REALLY well, like it never has, it just wouldn't fire.

Finally I plugged the male & female bullet connectored white wires into each other (that used to go into the tach) and the car fired right up, HOWEVER, just like it would with the tach installed, it really struggled to turn over.

For giggles, I pulled the wires again and the car would turn over REALLY well, just like before, but not fire. Plug the tach wires back in again and the car struggles to turn over, but does start with no issues.

I know that this wire goes to the coil, but what is it doing that takes so much power away from the started?

By the way, battery is brand new and fully charged.

I would like to use it as an everyday car (eventually) and I am aware that my original diff is a 3.9.. what are the advantages of the other differentials (4.22 & 3.77) and would they fit into my axle casing?? Or should I just pick up a used 3.9.. I am technically minded and have done a lot of restoration before Im just unsure on the best configuration of final drive for me..
Well the jury is in on the use of Mobil 1oil which caused me to leak and burn 2 quarts over 200 miles. I changed the oil to Castrol GTX High Milage 20W-50 Oil, plus 1 bottle of ZDDP Additive, and drove the same 200 mile route yesterday. The car burned zero oil and stopped leaking completely. After letting the car sit for 15 minutes I checked the oil level and it was right on the full mark where it was before I drove 200 miles. I guess this tells all we need to know about Mobil 1 or any other synthetic oil in our old cars which were never designed for synthetic oil. I believe that the oil is way to slippery and leaks by the seals and gaskets while not sealing the piston rings.

As for venting, my car has a downdraft tube, a hose from the rocker cover to the front air cleaner which has a restricted fitting on it, and a Westwood metal oil cap which is supposed to be non vented but is not. This is what I did to solve the venting problem. I installed an oval K&N air filter kit that uses the aluminum plates that bolt to the two SU cars tying them together as one. I then installed a 1/2" vent bung into the base plate above the front float bowl cover. Now instead of being restricted this new vent from the rocker cover to the new air cleaner is a full 1/2" ID. The next thing was to remove the Westwood metal cap as they are truly not non vented and install a later plastic non vented oil cap. Problem solved. No oil usage or oil leaks and no smoke. When I sprayed carb cleaner into the top of the Westwood cap it flowed out the bottom of the cap which shows it is not a non vented cap. As the cap is not non vented you loose the vacuum needed to pull the vapors from the rocker cover to the air cleaner. After 200 miles there was not a sign of oil on the air cleaner. All I wish is that I could find a Westwood metal oil cap that is truly non vented.

Once the engine is all warmed up the car runs near perfect except for a stumble when I lightly press down on the gas pedal after decelerating. The outside temp was 73 degrees. Once the temp gets down to 60 degrees outside the car really started to misfire all the time for about 20 minutes and then it cleared up except for the slight stumble when I lightly pushed the gas pedal after decelerating. The points and timing are spot on and all the wires, cap and rotor are brand new. When I got home after dark I looked at the engine to see if there were any sparks jumping from the ignition system and there was nothing. I have balanced the carbs and set the mixture twice and and added octane booster to my 91 octane ethanol gasoline and it has made no difference. The only way I have been able to make a difference is to change the spark plugs even though they look ok. I have been running Autolite Extreme Performance XP plugs as the I can or find the old Champion N5 plugs around here. What is the best plug make and number to run in this stock engine that has a K&N Oval Filter kit on it?
Thanks up front my friends,

This is a serious issue in my book. In case you havent noticed, these mesages are not only cropping up like weeds on this website but also all over the entire internet. These spam posts are like weeds and must be pulled or they will kill this forum. Consider youselves lucky because the same vietnamese message that no one seems to be able to decypher is repeated 96 times on some threads on other forums. Youtube has thousands of spam videos up with the same message. Google shows 14 million hits with iterations of teh same spam message you have been seeing on this site.

As of the time of this writing, the Austin healey sprite forum on the network is clear of spam. In fact it would seem that all other sites in the autoshrine netowork are clear of spam. This means one of two things. 1) Skye is dealing with the problem and we are the last in line to get helped, or 2) the spammers are targeting the most popular and active forums to the extent that skye can't keep up. Its already at the point where I can't report every spam post I see. Ignoring the problem wont solve it. The BST forum is dead now for all intents and purposes. Its hard to find anything amongst all the spam. The vendor forum is almost as bad.

I encourage all of you to go to the other forums on MG experience and report as many as you can. Thats all we can do for the momment. If things get worse, we may be able to migrate to the austin healey sprite forum on this site. At least that way the community can take shelter and ride out the storm until things improve.

Hi All,

Attached are a couple of pictures of my distributor. I have a 1976, 1500 with what appears to be an original Opus distributor, that at some point in its life had an aftermarket electronic box wired up to it since the original Lucas module must have failed. In general I don't seem to have any issues, there does not appear to be any wobble in the shaft and I have "turned" it occassionally as needed to adjust the timing (I have advanced the timing and abandoned the vacuum retard). My question is are the items in the photos, that have RED arrows pointing to them 1) original internals from the Opus or are they part of the aftermarket electronic box/module wired into the unit (sorry, I did not include a picture of the box) and 2) Do they require any adjusting? There appears to be a set screw or two, and the black disk with the 4 cuts in it must spin between the other black module and I am assuming "optically" trigger the equivalent of "points" to send electricity to the plugs? I have a 71 VW/Porsche 914 with a points distributor, so I am more comfortable with that set-up. I figure this converted Opus is a bit black magic, and that one day I may be at the side of the road with a dead car and then wish I had learned more about this converted dizzy. Any advice appreciated.

Best,

Hello,

I recently purchased a '76 Midget which has had a Weber 32/36 carb installed by one of the POs. It does not have a proper air filter installed and I would like to get one. The current "filter" has worn a small hole in the bonnet (hood) which I suspect happened when it become loose and vibrated, so I am concerned about getting something to fit, in terms of height. Does anyone have a recommendation as to something that would fit and perform well?

Photos attached of current set up.

Cheers,

Dave.

Hey folks!

I just had to post and brag a little bit. I found a little guy to adopt and is coming home Tuesday :)

Found a nice little 1972 midget with aprox 35,xxx miles

I did have one question though. I noticed while there that the little bugger had no heater box in it. The guy who had owned it before me had mentioned that there were some that didn't come with one. Is that true? Looked the car over and saw no heater valve, box, etc. if that is the case can I add one? Just a thought.

Also thanks to everyone who posts here and all the wealth of info around :)

hello.
My MG Midget 1500 (1978) have problem with misfire in second cylinder. I hear beating from exchaust. First i've thought that is a problem with carb mixture.
Lead set, spark plugs are 100% ok. Distributor got new cap, and rotor arm. The contact breaker points are correct.
When all leads are in distributor cap the engine is runing on 3 cylinders, but when i take of the lead from cap (which is for second cylinder) and keep it about 1cm from cap (i see how the spark is jumping from lead to cap) the engine is runing on all cylinders, and there is no beating from exchaust.
Well we have gone over the midget and listed everything we want to do, has a few rust patches which need to be sorted but on the whole a pretty solid car ( a miracle when you live in the wet old UK!) Will be starting dismantling today. One thing we are undecided on is do we keep to the original colour ( citron) or do we go for red which we had always said we would paint..... I must admit I am now thinking keep to the original colour .... What do others think? ( tried to upload pics but file too big so will try again later !! :)

Hi there

I recently convinced my father to let me have his 1972 mkIV sprite to give me something slightly more productive to do with my weekends than sit about drinking cider (fun as that is). It has spent the last 28 years sat at the back of a not entirely dry barn and is in pretty poor condition. While I’m happy to do the extensive rebuilding/reconstruction/restoration, before I get too far down this path are there any components/systems that I need to be sure are sound before I go ahead? I realise that anything is replaceable given enough time and budget but my question is this; are there any bits of a sprite that, once they’re gone, make the whole thing not worth trouble?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me

Well that settles that argument. I have not used anything BUT silicone for the last 30 years and of course it is in the Bugeye as we speak.

The box also comes with a host of caveats saying that the unit MUST be bench bled before install. I have never bench bled a MC before and am not sure how the MC knows it is n the car or the bench? Also that the pedal must not be swung full travel during bleeding or it will damage the internals and upset the PWDA switch (whatever that is)

Can't say as it inspires confidence in the product.

So, I will be saying goodbye to the engine compartment paint in the vicinity of the MC and installing this baby tonight.

How the hell do you bench bleed a Bugeye MC? Anyone?

This used to happen every once in a blue moon, over the last week or so it's a constant occurrence. Basically at periodic times I lose all the instruments and directionals and presumably brake lights. Hazards still work. My usual fix is to open up the hood and spin the fuses, wiggle things around the box, etc. In the past this has worked for months at a time. Now it seems to work sometimes until I shut the hood down, or maybe the rest of the day. I put some dielectric grease on the fuses, didn't seem to help.

I'm guessing I should just replace the fuse box? I thought I saw someone offering a blade fuse box replacement. If so, worth it? Or just plunk down the $15 and assume a new traditional style box will do the trick?

Hi all, been a month or 2 since my last post.

Was wondering if anyone can shed some light as to what is wrong with my clutch?

I have had this problem since ownership (5 months) and its really starting to annoy me now. I can go out it the car and everything will be fine for say the first 20 minutes. after that,my clutch pedal starts sticking in the first few inches of travel? I only use the car for work really,15 miles of motorway and 3 miles of town traffic. sometimes the pedal will release slowly,or it release quite sudden with a bang and stall the engine.

another problem I have is...

When I get the car settled on the motorway doing anywhere between 50-60 mph,the car starts to vibrate,I take my foot off the gas and it goes, but only until the car is cruising sat at speed again? the only way I can describe it is its like going over a cattle grid at speed.

Hope someone can help with these probs

Thanks all in advance

So I found a set of factory style air cleaner housings on EBay. Not a bid and seconds to go, so I placed a bid, and of course I won them. Seller stated they were removed from a 1970 MG Midget. I was surprized though when I got them as they were larger than I was imagining. I did find some pics of cars on this forum who's filters look nearly identical. I can bolt up one to the carb, but the housing is too large to fit the other one. Also the opening in the back is a large round opening, but it is way too large to ever seal to the carb, and the bolts are too long as well. I have HS2 carbs on my car as per the tag on the front float bowl. So what do these fit!!!

I did notice that the stop for the window is missing on that side. The one that is at the bottom center of the door. missing. I have the felt pad that's supposed to be mounted there, but the metal bit is gone. Anyone know a source? Moss doesn't have it listed.

Can I run the exhaust pipe through drive line tunnel?
It looks like there is sufficient room.
Would heat be a problem?

I've now purcahsed (and fitted) a Chase MG 13" steering wheel - excellent bit of kit (it's a Springalex wheel and boss kit).

However, since I've had the car, the horn has been aa push button item seperate from the wheel, and upon fitting the wheel I've noticed i don't have the required slip ring or horn pencil for the horn to work with the original wheel (the 'proper' wheel was refitted by the previous owner, but he didn't get the horn working, hence the push button thing).

My question is - can you use the slip ring and/or the horn pencil with an aftermarket wheel?

And if so - anyone have any photos they could share so i can see where it attaches?

Cheers,

Alright guys I need some major help. I got my mg running and I'm in the works refinishing everything. I'm having an issue with my su fuel pump. It's forking fine but after running for a few minutes I notice a puddle of fuel under the car. I jacked the car up and watched the pump and at first I thought it was the gasket or diaphragm but today I figured out it is actually coming from the small nipple on the top if the pump. Not the in and out nipples for the main gas lines but the tiny one that is on there. Should that be connected to somthing because mine is not. I do have two rubber hoses that could fit that aren't connected to anything. But both if those hoses run up into the trunk? I need some help here guys. I have a new fuel pump on order from moss but they are in major back order. I think if I can figure out what that little nipple is and if I can plug it or not I will be good to go. Help please!! Thanks guys

When I put the hardware on the pipe ends up pretty high up, almost even with the axle, to the point where I cannot connect the muffler. I noticed in the Moss catalog it shows a bend in the exhaust pipe before the muffler, mine is just straight. Sound like I need a new exhaust pipe?
