WTB, MGA green indicator - FOUND

Found green indicator lens, but still looking for the following ;

I'm also looking for coupe sun visors or at least the correct original hinges.

I'm attempting to restore my '57 MGA coupe to original spec, so am looking for NOS BMC or Lucas parts-

Anyone have a NOS muffler ?

Thanks,

Bob,

If you have original sun visors, I would be interested in seeing a picture.

Gary, I have looked at quite few a sun visors and hinges and agree that the SPL shows a simple hinge design, as used in the Austin A30 - shown in my pictures on Barney's site (see http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/coupe/cp107.htm). However, I have seen several cars with the Y-type hinges and there is a drawing in a factory document somewhere which shows that style of hinge (I can't find it at the moment but will keep looking). Given the rarity of Y-types, and the prevalence of MGA coupes with these hinges, it would be consistent if these hinges were also used. There is even an unrestored twin cam coupe in QLD that has one of each.

Cheers,

My '57 coupe is as close to original specs as I can get. Exception to date being inside door pulls (ordering from SC soon, as they are now available). My turn signal indicator is original with the washer. Happy to take any pix you might want and e-mail them to you upon request. Also, Barney's site has some good pix in his coupe section.

Thanks for the correction / info......yes, the original is smooth, slightly domed, and is slightly larger (9mm vs 8mm) diameter than currently available replacements. Also, it would appear that originals are of a darker green color.

There is also a trim washer that goes with it, that sits between indicator and dash face.

Any and all help and information is greatly appreciated from those who still have original parts and knowledge.
This is the first time that I am attempting to restore a vehicle to as correct original condition as possible.

Other cars I have restored in the past have always been with repro and available parts, not always completely correct and though they turned out great and performed well they were not as 'original' as could have been, often taking advantage of newer ideas and technology, often they were actually better that the factory effort.

Since my Coupe is very nearly all original, and probably the most original car I have ever started with, I decided to keep it and restore it as factory correct as I can.

Again, many thanks to those of you sharing your knowledge and insights !

Mark, I know you believe that the Y-type hinges are the same, BUT, as far as I can ascertain, no-one can confirm what the originals really were like. I've seen several types on Coupes around the World, and no two were the same. The sun visors shown in the Service Parts List as item AHH5710 are almost exactly the same as the very first Mini ones, made from vinyl, with heat pressed edges.

Joe,
The green plastic dash light is smooth, not faceted - just make sure the thread on a new one is correct. There are some around that have the wrong thread.
If you can find an MG Y type being wrecked, the hinges are the same as the coupe.

As far as the sun visor hinges go, reproducing them is likely the only way most coupe owners could add install sun visors, and they would at least be faithful reproductions. that is unless someone unearths a hidden stash of several cases of them somewhere...... Besides, only a very small number of coupe owners would even care if they are were original or not.

I am going to restore my coupe as original as possible, but that's me and mine. Others out there just want good looking and functional.

So, any hinges available for sale or short term loan ???

The molding process is completely harmless, so any loaned hinges will be returned in the condition they are received in.

I'll take a look at the Moss catalog....not sure if it is the same as original ( anybody know if it is or not?)

If I can at least find the sun visor hinges, I could make a mold for copy castings in resin and then have the cast in metal ! Just need a good original set to start with !
Thanks
