Pulled off of the BGT restoration "for just a month or two" to put a '77 B together for my wife to drive. This was in march of 2011, I think. Well, the VW daily driver work (transmission R&R)is becoming just an unpleasant memory, and the daily driver is back to being a good, daily driver again. Since my post & pics showing the disassembly of the right side sill, I've completely removed the rusted (and how!) sill panels, cleaned up the areas which will be covered by the new panels, and started the preliminary fitting of the new panels. Well, that goddamned VW kicked my ass again! Several times over the past 48 hours, actually. According to one section of the workshop manual, the automatic transmission can be R&R'd with the engine still in place. However, after the fifth ass-kicking administered to me by the Golf transmission reinstallation, I decided to look into getting some more obstructions out of the way. My racing partner, Jim (Bif) Wangler, took this photo as we were warming our cars up for the sprint home from the '81 SCCA Run-Offs, at Road Atlanta. The TR7 Spider parked next to me is our local (Pittsburgh) MG-Triumph dealer service manager's (standing between the cars) demonstrator. Since he had the latest radar detector, I followed him.
