Choosing a replacement distributor I get asked this a lot: “Which distributor is going to work best in my car?” A 25D, 45D, Eurospec, or Flame Thrower? Setting ignition timing In the MGB you can set your initial timing a number of ways. The easiest and most common way is to use an inductive pickup timing light. The pickup cable clamps around the front spark plug wire (cylinder #1) and the other two cables go to power and ground. The ground cable (black one) can be clipped to the alternator at any point that has bare exposed metal.
