Got the engine back finally from the builder. Small frame mods and had to re-work the headers, but it fits now.

I made the new dash from knotty maple, stained with minwax gunstock and varnished with 3 coats of Spar Varnish.

Very attractively done, Dave... love the colour. Spar varnish provides a good, tough, resilient finish. It's intended for outdoor applications primarily (such as spars), and can remain very slightly tacky, which allows it to expand and contract with temp and humidity changes. That prevents it from cracking and crumbling.

Restoration Update

Dave Haywood   can — Posted on The MG Experience
Sunday November 20, 2011 7:28 AM
Well I'm finally at the interior part of the resto. I have hand made the new door covers and the pieces bhind and to left and right of the seats. I will unfortuneately have to have an auto upholsterer do the headliner. I have a cabinet maker doing new maple for the door window ledges. I have yet to get new guages, so I am holding off on doing the dash yet. I have a nice piece of knotty maple to make it out of, drying in my workshop.
The engine will shortly be going to the engine builder to begin its overhaul and re-build. I haave received all the pieces to complete the front and rear suspension re-build, and anticipate that I will be getting on to finnishing them up shortly.

Thanks, I'm trying my hand at fabrication. It seems to be going ok so far!
