That seems like it would work. Will you be able to maintain a clearance between the OD of the spring and the rotor? I don't think that "cocking" of the pads will be an issue.On a front conversion I did using Nissan front calipers the pad hardware kit included some wire return springs. They were leaf springs attached to the top of the pads and served the same purpose. They were very effective at reducing the drag on the rotor..
