As mentioned, the interior has been changed from the original red to black sometime before my grandfather purchased the car. This was done by spray painting the interior panels while they were still in the car (see photo). Carpet had been added but the floor needs some attention. I am going to strip the floor down, and clean up the surfaces. There are some small areas where the seam between the floor and frame have holes, those will be reinforced. I am still deciding how to treat the floor, likely will be a bedliner-type product for strength and durability.
I will remake the interior panels and recover. My intent is to maintain black. Originally, I wanted to return the interior to red, but I then heard the story of how my grandfather and grandmother named the car "Sylvester" due to the color combo. I will likely add that name as a tribute somewhere and will maintain the interior color black and old english white.
How I got the car, looked ok at first...
Painted trim sprayed around hoses. :(
What the panels look like removed, such a shame.
Factory red vinyl floor which trapped moisture.
Factory padding ready to be removed.
Some rust holes evident on driver side where they left the factory vinyl floor.
More work to do cleaning the floor, will strip and prep for coatings.
