Fuel Tank Redue

Most recent work was to redo the brakes. Rebuilt the wheel cylinders and the
master and replaced the brake fluid with silicone brake fluid. Also redid the
gas tank on my TC. The tank as been cleaned on the inside and “slushed”
which is a method to clean, acid etch and then coat the tank to provide a lining
to prevent corrosion and rust inside the tank. At the same time I decided to
give the tank a fresh paint job. Paint is British Racing Green Acrylic Lacquer
with metal prep, 3 coats of primer, 3 coats of color and 4 coats of Clearcoat.

Just a little background, have had the car since 1964. I had restored a 1953 TD
and I swapped it for the TC with a good friend. Did a frame up restoration over
the next 6 years. I had access to a pattern shop at the time working for a
major industrial pump manufacture as a Mechanical Engineer and made all new body
wood parts. All work has been done by me and I love to do the mechanical work.

Need new tires...the ones on the car were purchased from Moss Motors in about 1967-
1970! They are now considerably more expensive. anyone know a good supplier
for Dunlap 450 19 tires in the USA?

About My TC

John Slaughter   usa — Posted on The MG Experience

What a great site! I own a 1948 MGTC, TC 6128 and Engine XPAG 5985. I have owned two TD’s and bought an MGA new in 1957. The TC was a swapped in 1965 for my last 1953 TD which I had done a frame up restoration. The TC was in nice original condition, but in need of a little TLC. The wood behind the gas tank was bad and when I started one thing lead to another. So the car was done from the frame up with all the work done by me. Running down information was a lot harded back the and most of the new parts came from Moss motors. I had access to a company shop and a pattern shop at the time, so I was able to make all the tub wood myself and redid the guts of the steering larger bearings and a new larger shaft to reduce torque bending. The car is painted with 1964 T-Bird “Cascade Green” which is very close to the latter very dark BRG. If you have the time pictures of the restoration is on my page at Shutterfly link is : http://share.shutterfly.com/share/received/album.sfly?sid=0QZMmLVs4Ysnkg&startIndex=0&fid=b17823790a6a39d6
We started a family about that time, moved all over the country and started a business, so the TC when into storage. In the 1990 completed the car and redid brakes etc. Then back to storage again until now. I have retired and have time to work on the car again. Your site is very welcome and looks to be a great help.
