May

Location Comfort Lane, North Dartmouth, MA, USA
Date May 06, 2017

Save the date! The 6th Annual Spring British Motoring Tour (AKA: Rick's Ride) along the back roads of the Massachusetts South Coast and Rhode Island East Bay region will be held this year on Saturday, May 6, 2017!

We meet up right off I-195 at Exit 12 (see directions below) at Faunce Corner Crossing on Comfort Lane in Dartmouth, MA. There are a couple of parking lots right behind the Mobil station and the McDonalds Restaurant on Faunce Corner Road, adjacent to the Kia dealership, just look for the British iron! Let's try to meet by 10:30 am, you can have a bite at McDonalds, or the nearby Dunkin Donuts, then we'll have a laid-back driver/navigator meeting at 11:00 am and leave around 11:30 pm. The route we'll follow will be about 75 miles, stopping at Sakonnet Point, Westport Rivers Winery, Buzzard's Bay Micro Brewery, and ending at Gray's Ice Cream in Tiverton, RI.

If you cannot join us for the entire run, you can meet us for any portion of the run that fits your schedule. . . or just show up at the start to kibitz.

In the event of inclement weather, we'll try again the following Saturday, May 13, 2017.

There is NO CHARGE to join us for the group drive sponsored by the British Motorcars of New England. Remember that we're just a group of friends out for a drive, and by joining with us, you assume responsibility for your own actions.

Cheers,

Rick Crosby

oldredsel@aol.com

Directions:
From I-195 East, take exit 12, Faunce Corner Road, then right at end of ramp, followed quickly by a left at "Faunce Corner Crossing" (Comfort Lane).

From I-195 West, take exit 12A, Faunce Corner Road, then left at "Faunce Corner Crossing" (Comfort Lane).

Location 1944 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA, USA
Date May 07, 2017

Autocross!!! Dash around a bunch of orange rubber cones on an old airfield against the clock. Costs a whole $30 to race, and nothing to watch. We're like a big family, and if you've never done it, show up and ask us for a ride-along. We run the first Sunday of every month between April and November, but my car won't be done in time for the April fun. If you expect to be first in HCS, you'll have a hard time because there's a SUPER badass Datsun 240Z that makes everybody else look slow, but I don't mind finishing behind her, because she's just a joy to watch.

Location Partridge Inn, 2110 Walton Way, Augusta, GA, USA
Date May 20, 2017

Come to Augusta, Georgia in May 2017 to meet with Morgan Three Wheeler enthusiasts. You don’t have to own a Morgan to attend! Both vintage and modern Morgan 3-wheelers will be there and we will offer activities ranging from basic familiarization to advanced repairs and maintenance. Click the link above for more information

Want to learn how to drive a Morgan Three Wheeler? Driving coaches will be on hand, teaching you to drive their Morgan trike. Want to learn to perform your own maintenance on the engine, gearbox, suspension, etc.? Experienced owners will share their knowledge and techniques. Need something more advanced? Come pick the brains of experienced Morgan restorers.

For spouses and other family members: this gathering is not just for sharing technical knowledge! We are planning activities for those who are less than thrilled at the prospect of listening to discussions about Morgans all day, every day. There will be group visits to local points of interest during our tech sessions and we will offer an opportunity to learn the art of needle felting (basic video tutorial here: http://tinyurl.com/zgvxsnv).

This hugely popular event takes place again on the June bank holiday 2017, between Friday June the 2nd and Monday June 5th.

Classic cars from all over the globe are welcome to join in this journey back in time experience. The original Gordon Bennett route was first run in 1903 and travelled through the charming country sides and villages of Kildare, Carlow and Laois. However, instead of the neck-breaking race it once was, this event invites you to take a gentler approach and to travel at your own pace whilst embracing the experience of a weekend filled with fun, nostalgia and liked minded individuals.

Civic resumption by Laois County Council; Gala Dinner (very casual); Beautiful planned car runs; plaques and prizes; and an experience of driving the original course, through the inspiring splendour of the Irish countryside or ambling through the quaint and curious little towns. 10th Annual Friends of Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show

“The Sand Pebbles” VIP Dinner: Friday June 2, 2017
Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show: Saturday, June 3, 2016

“Hello, Engine. I’m Jake Holman.” – Steve McQueen as Jake Holman in “The Sand Pebbles”

Chino Hills, CA: Expect a liberty when the 10th Annual Friends of Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show calls port at Boys Republic, 1907 Boys Republic Drive, Chino Hills, CA, on June 2-3, 2017. Trading battleship machinery for vehicle engines, this year’s event will revolve around the Robert Wise directed film, “The Sand Pebbles”, for which Steve McQueen received an Academy Awards nomination as best actor.

The action begins Friday evening, June 2, with “The Sand Pebbles” VIP dinner. The evening will include a silent auction and wine tasting, followed by a movie themed dinner program and live auction. The meal will be planned, prepared and served by culinary students of Boys Republic.

The car and motorcycle show will take place on Saturday, June 3. Discounted pre-registration opens January 1, 2017 on the website and closes May 1, 2017. Due to space limitations, pre-registered vehicles will receive first priority in display placement.

Enthusiasts wishing to head out on patrol may sign up for the 2nd Annual Steve McQueen Rally, sponsored by Russo and Steele, and taking place on May 6 and 7, 2017. Participants will begin their two-day journey in the Cuyamaca mountain town of Julian, traversing to Borrego Springs, with an overnight stay in the Palm Desert area. More information will be available on the Friends of Steve McQueen website.

The Boys Republic was established in 1907, as a private, non-profit community for at-risk boys and girls, ages 13-17. McQueen attended as a student from 1947-49. The actor credited the school with turning his life around and pointing him on the path to success. He never forgot that connection, and remained involved with the school even after he became a Hollywood star and legend. The McQueen family continues that involvement today.

Over the past nine years, the car and motorcycle show has raised more than $1 million, with all proceeds donated to Boys Republic. As a result, improvements to the campus include a new teaching bakery, renovations of the 60 year-old gymnasium, and complete renovations to the six campus living units. For students participating in the school’s re-established auto-tech class, monies have been pledged to fund an annual scholarship to graduates continuing these studies at the community college level.

The show was originally established by members and friends of the Porsche 356 Club of Southern California, and continues to attract automobile, motorcycle and off-road enthusiasts from throughout the United States.

This will be my car's debut. Definitely not a showroom quality MGB (more like a 20 footer - 30 if you have good eyes), but she's got some style points others may want to see. Mostly it'll be a day for us to wander around and see other cars. I'm really looking forward to this!

The CT MG Club's
30th ANNIVERSARY
"BRITISH BY THE SEA”
JUNE 4TH 2017 HARKNESS MEMORIAL STATE PARK, WATERFORD CT

The CT MG Club's "BRITISH BY THE SEA” is a fun GATHERING of people who own and appreciate British Vehicles of all Marques. Although we do present etched glass mug awards to vehicles selected by popular vote, "BRITISH BY THE SEA" is not a judged show. We want to encourage ALL British car, truck, and motorcycle owners and enthusiasts to attend and have an enjoyable time. Whether your vehicle is in pristine condition, or a daily driver, sparkling paint and chrome or with “Barn Fresh” patina, it deserves to be part of the event and on the display field.

This is going to be our 30th anniversary event, and we want to make it Special ! The Featured Marque for this year’s 30th Anniversary British By The Sea is the MORRIS. As usual, our Featured Marque will be prominently displayed in the front row, and will have generous room to display the vehicles along with any club tents for memorabilia and hospitality.

Our BBTS Gathering is always scheduled on the first Sunday in June, at the scenic 240 acre Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford Ct., on the north shore of Long Island Sound. We want to encourage people to come down and enjoy a day mingling with other LBC owners, talk about cars, have a picnic, a glass of wine, and also take in all that Harkness Memorial State Park has to offer, such as the beach, the Mansion “Eolia”, and the Gardens. The CT MG Club donates a large amount of our proceeds from BBTS to the Park to purchase plants for the West Gardens, helping to restore the “Eolia” Gardens to their original grandeur as designed by Beatrix Farrand in 1919. In addition, we provide “people power” over a few weekends to plant them.

We have selected a variety of quality food vendors to attend in order to satisfy any appetite, from hot dogs and hamburgers, lobster rolls, and wood fired brick oven pizzas, to Ice Cream for desert. You can also bring a picnic to enjoy and share “out of the boot” of your car.

The expansive lawn areas offer ample room for the display vehicles, vendors, spectator parking and a spacious area for trailer parking.

We hope to see you all on Sunday June 4th 2017

Simply one of the best days of the year... the cars bring people together in ways that just do not always happen on a normal day. Suddenly people who have never met are sharing stories about the cars in their life, the impact they had... the memories of that time... and people just come alive in ways that they have not seen in awhile... it is truly amazing and the cars are cool too!

2017 VSCDA Blackhawk Vintage Classic XXV
15th Running of the Kastner Cup Triumph Race

VSCDA’s Green Flag of Summer is ready to fly June 16-18th, 2017 at the 25th Blackhawk Classic in South Beloit, Illinois. This year our event is a full three day race weekend with an incredible amount of track time for an early bird price of only $405. Blackhawk’s upgrades over the years have turned it into a first class facility for both drivers and spectators, and this year we are honored to host the world-famous Kastner Cup’s 15th running. Our honorary Grand Marshal will be the one and only great racer and innovator Kas Kastner himself. The Kastner Cup attracts some of the most beautiful and historically significant Triumph race cars from all over the world, something you won’t want to miss.

In addition to the Kastner Cup, Friday will feature the Jeff Porasik Wells Fargo Advisors Enduro benefitting the Disabled American Veterans charity (this is a terrific cause, and one of the the greatest bargain in vintage racing at only $40 early bird for nearly an hour of racing). The weekend will also feature the Vintage Vee Series, the Trans Am B-Sedan race and the 2nd installment of the Sprite-Midget Race Series. Sunday will wrap up with the Dad’s Day Scramble reverse-start race, which last year went exactly to plan with an amazing finish as a Group 1 MG edging out a Group 6 Mustang by a mere 1.1 seconds. This year also promises more vintage aircraft doing their ballet over the racetrack than we’ve had in years. Come out and join us!!

The problem with finding an "all original" in the AZ dessert is finding/replacing all the cracked tubes and hoses in time for the show! LOLMessage me if you have tricks or a good supplier of the impossible-to-find stuff, i.e., TSCA hoses and deteriorated windshield washer pump, etc.
