1950 MG TD "-"
Recently aquired 1950 TD #XPAG/601.
I have the head off the engine and have now taken the engine out of the car with the transmission still attached.
Could someone please advise me the separate weights of the engine, head, and transmission. The engine is the standard 1250 ( and i did find the brass id plate showing number 601 when i was able to clean off some of the muck. Also I took the oil pump off but could not remove the section that is attached to the block, any advice on this appreciated.

Hello Dave. To remove the oil pump body you need pull on the body while you tap on the top down, then tap on the bottom up, repeat again and again. You only have a few thousandths of an inch clearance around the shaft for the driven gear. If you want to use a pry bar after getting it to move use a material that is softer than the cast iron, aluminum or brass, so you don't damage the body.

Dave, a completely strippedXPAG block weighs 91 lb. A completer engine with head, starter, generator and carbs weighs 245 lbs. Weight of a bare cylinder head is 32 lbs. I do not have the weight of a TD gearbox but a TC gearbox weighs 51 lb. with the bellhousing and shift extension removed.
Cheers, Hugh

Dave,

As an aside for pulling the oil pump body, be sure that the driven gear is removed. If not it can jam the driving gear and the driving gear will not be allowed to rotate as it disengages from the cam. Big mess.
