Currently I have a mechanical speedo drive so I have the drive gear in the place where the VSS is supposed (?) to go. Does the ECU need a VSS signal? Can I bypass?

Again thanks ALL for answering my MANY question.

Mark,

Here's a good thread on VSS info. I'm not sure what input signal your computer needs, so you may want to look into that if you want to use a VSS.

I still do not use a VSS, but I may try it in the future just as an experiment.

You can always just try it and see. They make inline ones that turn the rotation of the speedo cable into a signal. You could always add one of these later.

Mark, whoa not so fast! You did not mention your engine/trans set up. If the engine is a GM V6 and you are using the GM ECM you will encounter engine idle problems when coming to a stop. There are solutions available form the vendors here.

If you are using a 3.4V6 from a 93 camaro, the stock GM ECU, and a T5 from a Mustang will you encounter an idle problem when coming to a stop if you do not use a VSS? If so what is the solution?

Thanks

3.4 V6 w/3.1 intake, distributor, etc.
Camaro WC T5

So the sensor would go at the speedo end and not the tranny end?

thanks.

I cannot speak for the 3.1L V6 ECU and others.

The 3.4L L32 system 1.5 PCM works fine with the VSS disconnected from the PCM. We generally do not run the VSS at all.

I believe Dann is correct in that some ECUs are a bit funky with certain sensors disconnected from what I have read elsewhere.
