I looked at the price and thought: Ok. if it's been completely rebuilt that might be justified.... but come on, can't you even get the rust off the manifold. Then i read the description. It's probably a useable motor, but not worth that much!

Quote: The carbs need to be rebuilt and needs new main jets and grose valves and the valve lash needs to be set when warm but has been set cold.

$3,500 and the carbs aren't even sorted out? Why Grose jets? Also, I was sure you set valve clearance cold to allow for expansion once warm...?

yep, setting valve clearances cold is correct for these engines. For that money, I would expect it to have been machined, with new bearings, pistons, rings, cam, all gaskets, carbs gone over if not completely redone and basically ready to bolt in and go.

Where I come from, that's called a "rattle can rebuild"... And they didn't even do a very good job of it. I was born at night, but it wasn't last night... Or any time last week, either.

For that price, the manifold should have been porcelainized. All three of my LBC cost less than that, and I didn't have to worry about braking the bank with an untested motor rebuild.

lists says: "I have no way to weigh it but I guestimate it at around 400 to 450 lbs"

I must be getting stronger in my old age. I can pick up my engine with wife helping... winking smiley

Maybe I should make a $100.00 offer, I'm close enough to go get it if he'll sell. At the price he's asking it should come with a restored body.

The outside of the oil filter looks rusty. They could have at least painted that too.

I sent him a question on it..I told him a full blown rebuild with machine shop wouldn't be that much...I had less than $1000 in my 1990 S10 2.5. And that includes machine work and parts ..granted I did the work myself.

For that kind of $$, I'd expect the holder to come with it.
