Cousins (yes you in the USA) what's a fair price for a 4cyl 78 - 80 GT no rust (I don't particularly want to redo rusted panels), paint so-so but straight body, and mechanicals it doesn't really matter (I'll more than likely convert to rhd plus its a car for the darkside)? What's the best source to keep an eye on search wise - evilbay/craigslist?
Mk1: CKD 11/66 first registered 8/5/67; owned since 3/77. 18GB +40 balanced. Peter Burgess BVFR head. Piper 285. 123. FidanzaFW. 4synch c/r box. Lots more as I did a nut and bolt rebuild; finished 2015. Tartan Red.

Why stuff around buying o'seas and importing, converting to RHD etc when ex UK cars with minimal rust come up fairly regularly in Ozz for $3K to $6K - even less sans engine and gearbox. They are ready for a Rover V8 transplant with Dellow/Supra transmission. If you secure a car with engine and o/drive transmission you are $1500 in front immediately as the combination is readily marketable.

Peter I'm asking because there's nothing currently available here that I can find. I'm continuing to look here but others have suggested bringing in from the US less so from the UK. Just opening up my options.

I see where you are coming from but they do come up from time to time. During the past five years I have purchased three - two from MGCC classifieds and one by word of mouth. I will say that the GT is starting to be recognised for what it is - a terrific touring car with plenty of luggage capacity. V8 power and a Webasto/Britax/Weathershields sunroof really tops things off.
Forgot to mention that one of them is a '73 chrome bumper with sunroof, overdrive etc - $3000. Rust in usual places but totally repairable.

Ok thanks for that about the GT being not imported. That saves me searching NA.

Now that's the sort of max$ I was thinking Keith. Rust in the wings is easy to repair; I just don't want to do rust in the sills again. The engine and gearbox aren't wanted as at this stage I want to fit a P76 V8. I think I'll just keep watching via mr Google something will turn up.

I think you will find that the P76 V8 won't fit under the bonnet as it has a 1" longer bore than the Rover engine to give the 4.4 litre capacity. I surmise that as the heads sit higher it follows that the inlet manifold and attachments rise accordingly. If you were to use the standard Rover blockhugger exhaust manifolds there would be issues there also.
Of course all these issues can be sorted but why not use a Rover block of your chosen capacity?
I could very well be wrong but it might pay to check it out.

Peter thanks for the warning. I'll do some more homework but I have a topic running over on the Darkside and they seem to think the P76 will fit. If it looks like it won't then yes I'm onto the various iterations of the Rover - that's also been covered in my Darkside topic

Hi Barrie
Just looked at your thread on the dark side - all good advice from knowledgeable people.
When I did mine my main criteria was to build it as close to a factory chrome bumper V8 as possible so I utilised the following:
bought a 3.5 crate engine from Triumph Spares in Adelaide
'77 RB GT body and converted to CB
retained RB front cross member as per factory but lowered to c/b height all round
block hugger manifolds
used Honeycomb style grille
used over riders with rubber inserts
installed 3.07 crown wheel and pinion
purchased correct c/b V8 dashboard from UK
badged as a V8
I have yet to pony up for a Clive Wheatley SU carb set up and repro V8 wheels in lieu of my Holley and chrome Dunlops.
I will stay with the Toyota Supra gearbox as original units are virtually unobtainable and expensive when they can be found.
