The B-series engines all had oil slingers. (the B-series engine was used in MGA's & MGB's and many other BMC/BL cars).
The duplex timing chain is supposed to be stronger. But I am not aware that breakage of the single row timing chains was common...

Mark,
If I understand well this is a request for information?
FWIW the A series engines as well had oil slinger installed, the purpose of this slinger is to 'help' keep the oil in the engine and away from the front seal, of which early ones were felt material. This oil slinger changed design along its' life but same design purpose.
The single vs. dual timing chain/sprockets alters the valve timing slightly. Your choice.
As well the A series never used a timing chain tensioner, I do not know the design thinking behind this at BMC.

Life's most persistent and urgent question is, "What are you doing for others?"

Interesting! This would mean that the keyway in one or both sprockets is in a different place. Might the timing change be related to emissions requirements?
