The lead wire for water temperature is broken, can that be repaired or is it toast?

Is it the mechanical gauge, with the spiral wire encompassing a central thicker tube? I understand that some folks have repaired them, but in my opinion I would replace. Do some research on where to buy, some places are much less expensive than others.
