I have an issue with the MGA that I just purchased. Without going into great detail at this point, I think that the VIN plate may not be the correct VIN. I have read that the body number is stamped somewhere on the frame. Can someone tell me where to find it and exactly what I will be looking for? Is it going to be the complete VIN or just the body number? I need to get to the bottom of this. The car is supposedly a 1957 but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul

The body number is on a plate on the firewall, but it has no relation to the VIN number. What you want is the chassis number which is the numerical part of the VIN number. It is stamped on the square cross member in front of the right side seat. Barney's site has a picture of the location, but on many cars it is hard to impossible to read. http://www.mgaguru.com/mgtech/buying/buy101.htm#chassis_no
