i finaly got voltage to the ignition switch but turning the key nothing works. I checked this morning and heard a clicking sound. the 4 way hazard lights on the dash were blinking and all 4 lights were blinking. however had to turn battery off to stop it. I did clean a couple of rusty contacts near drivers fender. suggestions other than wiring diagrams?

James,
Start at the front of the car and work your way to the rear - clean every connector (bullet, spade, bulb sockets, etc) and every grounding point.
This will eliminate those items as problem points, and get you more familiar with the wiring. And some problems might magically disappear.
Pogo is right.

The power of reasons is an illusion. The belief will not change when the reasons are defeated. The causality is reversed. People believe the reasons because they believe in the conclusion.

Sounds like you have a bad/extra earth somewhere.
Hazards are fed with brown. this is then fed from the hazard flasher (Light Green/Brown) to the Hazard switch.
When switched on the supply is fed to both sides via Green/White - right and green/Red - left
As that works except you can't turn them off means the hazard switch is you first port of call. They are not the best bit of kit in the world and apparently (I don't have one ) working it rapidly can resolve some issues.
"suggestions other than wiring diagrams" and whats wrong with them
