I need to replace the head gasket on my 73 Midget. I was thinking about the Cometic. I see that there are several thicknesses. Does the thickness matter or is it a preference. Is there a preferred gasket that most owners use? Thanks.

No idea, I have oil in the radiator and just found water on the valves.

Once you fix the problem I would just use a payen black composite gasket. The cometic gaskets are used by people that are trying to fine tune their CR to run on the edge.

The black composite head gasket are .035", the Copper gaskets are .030", really either thickness will work fine on the Cometic. If you going to spend $100 on head gasket, maybe a set of ARP head studs are worth considering, I would also straight check the block, and head deck for straightness, using a straight edge I attempt to get a .002" feeler gauge under the straight edge is several places on the deck, if I cannot, then a gasket should hold fine. Now decking the block requires the engine be torn down, but the head can be easily resurfaced, and that would be a good idea. Good luck
