Has anyone tried installing something like http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pace-Setter-70-1208-Painted-Black-Headers-93-95-Chevy-Camaro-Firebird-3-4L-V6-/380534562765?fits=Model%3ACamaro on an mgb 3.4 swap? Or would the headers just get in the way of the steering too much for it to be a viable option? Also, would the 2.8 version be the same? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Performance-Exhaust-Header-Manifold-85-90-Chevy-Camaro-Base-LT-RS-Sport-2-8L-V6-/172328970431?fits=Model%3ACamaro Just wondering as it would be nice to also get the y-pipe instead of making one. Also, can the original manifolds be used, or is the whole point of headers for a conversion because the manifolds won't fit without major modification to the body?

There are existing headers crafted specifically for the V6 conversions into MGBs. By the time you'd modified a set of F body headers and thrown much of them away, you'd wish you'd just bought what fit in the first place.

Scott,

When I first got involved with the conversion, my goal was as cheap as possible but a conversion that would convince a non-MG owner that the driveline was native to this vehicle. No headers, easy mounts, no pulley changeups and everything as inexpensive as possible. The problem became clear how much the car would have been cut up and the sorta-but-not-really-fit parts. At some point, a person starts to look at the project and if they are not a hack, they start to really spend time fabricating or searching for items that fit. This is why we started working with Bill from CCE for headers and mounts and other items. This is why BMC produces clutch system components, propshafts, MGB V6 fuel injection wiring looms (working on others), Complete MGB wiring looms, pulley system and a lot of what we think are pretty neat things.

Your question about factory manifolds or other inexpensive header choices used for cars with far larger engine bays has been a common question repeated over and over again as long as Conversions on cars have been happening. I believe I once heard a story that someone swapped a Franklin engine into a Packard and a Packard engine into a Franklin back when both cars were new. If you study this forum and go back to posts from the very first year, it will be amazing the questions that were asked. Some are familiar.

Thank you all, I figured that was the case, but wanted clarification anyway. I haven't actually seen the stock manifolds in real life, but googling some photos looks like they would be in the way of many things. sad smiley
