Guys i've got a 1500 midget and I pulled the oil pan for the first time since i've had it. I found a few things that I'm unsure about. My oil pump has the angled pickup that angles back to the rear of the oil pan. I believe that the factory oil pump is straight down. I've read conflicting things about using an angled oil pump. I've seen some post that say they are an upgrade to the straight down oil pump and some have posted that they were intended for the spitfire which used a different oil pan than the midget and it should never be used on a midget. What is the opinion of mgexp??Should I replace it? I do have a mechanical oil pressure gauge. It seems to run about 20-30 at idle and 50-60 at cruising speed. I haven't noticed a drop in hard cornering, however im not looking. Eyes are on the road. I haven't heard any strange noises from the engine though.

My guess is that you should have the vertical pickup and not the angled pickup.
In my old car, when I had the incorrect, angled pickup, the oil pressure would drop on any hard corner.
Why not take a passenger along and have them watch the oil pressure gauge? (this assumes you have a mechanical gauge.....if you happen to have the electric gauge, they react more slowly and you may not be able to tell).
