Can someone save to their harddrive music/vids from Youtube? Does it take a special program to do this? I've never seen an icon to save anything from Youtube

I don't think the videos can be saved to your hard drive but this site will let you convert the audio from youtube videos to mp3 and save them.

http://www.youtube-mp3.org/

It's good for adding hard to find or unique to youtube songs to your itunes playlist.

EZDownloader is supposed to be able to download the videos. I've never used it but it may be worth a look.

I've been trying to figure out the same thing. I can bookmark music videos, but, I'd like to add just the music to my iTunes library on my computer. Any suggestions? I don't even know what mp3 is! confused smiley

I use 'Realplayer', works great, actually downloads faster than you can play and does it in MP4 format.

Ron-

What's this mp3 and mp4 of which you speak?confused smiley Is that something I have on my computer already? I know I've got Windows Media Player that I loaded all my CDs to. And at some point I got iTunes installed, and it copied everything that was in Media Player. Is mp3 and mp4 just the format they use? Or, is it something else altogether?

Download the free version.

When you install it you'll see a page come up with the choice of "express" or "custom" install. Make SURE you pick the "custom" install, then you can un-select the little boxes for add-on crap like Yahoo and the Spigot bloat.

On the next page make sure you click on "Decline" so as to not install the invasive "RocketTab" search enhancer. It borders on malware.

The YTD software will install and now you have a very useful tool for saving Youtube videos and music. You can also convert files from one type to another, depending on what your machine will run.

It's a great program. Just be careful to check each page when you are installing it and make sure you aren't giving it permission to install bloatware.

Go to a Youtube site. Once the video or music is playing merely copy the link in address bar and paste it into the downloader address bar. Actually, once you right-click and copy the link from your browser, it will paste itself into the downloader bar when you hover over it.

Wray is on the money. Use the YTD downloader. Use it all the time at work. And yes, once it is on your computer, you can strip the audio and video apart using other software.

As others have mentioned above, lots of programs will do the job. Just be aware that you are breaking the law by making your own personal copies of copyrighted content (unless you own a copy of the original recording).
