Easy & fast question;
I am ready to re assemble, so
How much grease do you guys pack into this motor gear box? What type of grease?
TIA

Bruce, I put grease on all the contact areas where movement happens, plus a little more smeared over all parts, but not huge amounts. I used Castrol LM. Whether correct or not it has worked, or at very least, the wiper motor has shown no ill. When I took mine apart at first it was absolutely heaving with grease, the majority of which was doing little or nothing, just sitting there is great gobs, couldn't see any point in having grease where there was no function, other than perhaps rust proofing, which a decent smear would do just as well.

I used liberal amounts of white lithium grease.
Also "wiper box" normally refers to the assembly the wiper-arm attaches to. White lithium grease applies either way

Thanks Clay I have edited the OP.
I have always called those bits the wheel box but I know what I need
Thanks

I don't know how cold you get; but, this is what people think is the best for very low temperatures:

Of course, 1/2 mile from the 65 Deg F. Pacific Ocean in Oxnard, CA, the outside temperature is 65 Deg F. also.
Moss is not in Goleta, CA by accident.

Thanks chaps
I filled the teeth in the large cog with grease, packed the motor drive worm with same and added a tad in the cavity below the worm. I smeared a tad of grease in the link slide as well.
FWIW I used Super Lube GP grease with PTFE technology. as written on the can.

New question,
How much grease to apply when assembling the worm & wheel boxes?
Do we fill the worm before feeding it into the guides then pack grease locally at the wheel box, before closing the cover?

Bruce,
While I don't have a personal experience refurbishing the wiper motor (yet!), but I would do what you just did. Apply light grease on the gear teeth and worm gear. Not really "packing" it, but rather a skim coat. If you open any similar mechanism you will notice the manufacturer only applies a small mount where parts touch.
As for the type of grease, I had good luck with Marine grease, since it stays where you put it and doesn't harden. I use the one from CT (good and inexpensive). White lithium grease is very good too.

Planning on that for one of my summer projects on my 79. Wipers run very slowly and I'm guessing old stiff grease is the culprit.......

The overhaul pretty much done, motor cleaned of old grease, electrical connections cleaned up, now just waiting for new wheel boxes to arrive. My original wheel boxes were badly corroded and the threads for the nuts were bugge*d.
Thanks to all
