What is the best way to make sure an MGA is level for purposes of changing the differential oil? At one time I was able to get the clearance I needed by using car length riser ramps, but no longer. Now I need to use two separate tire ramps and a pair of jacks. So, can I simply take a level measurement off the bottom the sills; is it really that simple?

- Car sitting on flat surface. Garage floors are generally slooped toward the door.
- Tire pressures set as normally run.

Be safe out there.

According to Todd Clarke's book, the finisher strip should be the same height above the floor at all points. If your floor is level, you could use this measurement. This makes the assumption you have finisher strips fitted.

Jim, did all the A's come with finisher strips, or optional, after market?
My car has one on the left, none on right.
I had to buy a pair but will finish one out for right side.

Dave,
As far as I can tell, all As came with finisher strips. They are supposed to be painted body color but some people leave them unpainted.

From Barney's Encyclopedia:

" Very early production MGA had no lower body trim strip, so these five screws securing the fenders on each side were in plain sight."

It's on chapter "Body Sill Replacement - RT-627A".

To raise my Midget, which has the stance of a go-kart, off the ground to work underneath it I bought a Kwik-Lift. It works great is adjustable in both length and width, easy to put together or take apart and which makes them also portable. When not in use I park the car on it in the down position which is 6 inches high. they do provide detailed instruction on building wood approach ramps for this purpose. They are well made, easy to use and safe. I am very happy with their use and recommend them. thumbs up
