I would venture to say that most folks, maybe 95% that ask a question, respond to those answering. But there are some that seemingly never respond and acknowledge that it took someones time and effort to answer their question along with finding and posting the proper photos and data, just to be helpful. Even though it's disheartening, it's consoling to know it's only the extreme minority. eye rolling smiley PJ

I agree. When I start a thread, it's mine to nurture to a reasonable conclusion.

Once hijacked (sometimes even morphing into something quite interesting), it's on its own.

No one is required to respond to a post. But I have to admit that when I post a answer (which I hope is correct) to a question it bothers me that the OP doesn't acknowledge the the response and post if the answer/suggestion worked or not.
