Winged or non-winged?

Preferences?

Have: Octagon

Prefer: Eared

I only run octagon on my MGC because the eared ones look too busy on centerlock minilites, in my opinion. On my MGB with wire wheels I use eared. One advantage of eared is that you don't have to use those stupid octagonal knockoff wrenches.

Eared - they were octagons but I replaced them because the 2-eared ones look better.

Octagons and they have seen better days, I like them.

The prettiest ones are the MG crested 2-eared knockoffs. Moss sells them for about $41 each.

I think the triple ears are the better looking. The MG crested are offered by a variety of dealers some selling for less than $41.

I have eared on the '69 and octagonal on the '68.

I prefer the eared.

I had two eared when I had the wire wheels. When I switched to center lock mini-lites I changed to the octagons.

Anyone have pictures of the triple-eared knock-offs on a car? I've only seen them "à la carte" in catalogues.

My octagons have seen better days as well. I use eared with the plywood knock-off wrench in order to hopefully keep them looking nicer than the originals.

I used to use the "TWIST APPROVED" metal knock-off wrench for my eared knock-offs.

I now use a knock-off hammer only.

My car is not a concours car.

IMHO the 3 eared look fussy - suitable for the Sunbeam Alpines you often see them on.

Unless they are Campagnolo or Borrani wheels. I think I could live with this style on an MGC - too bad they don't make them.

One man's fussy is another man's bling imho....

You guys better be careful around the pedestrians in the cross walks.

I agree about the triples - they look very busy on a wire wheel. Good on mag wheels though. MGs are a bit small to run triple ears imho. Makes the spinner look huge! Just personal preference of course.

I like the logo ears on early cars, but on later cars like the MGC which have such simple lines, I find the logo distracting. From a design standpoint you don't want too much detail in any one area when you're dressing such a smooth and simple car.

I agree - I'm not a great one for bling - bought the Jamaican Daytons for their sealed spokes and stainless durable spokes rather than the fact that they happened to be chromed rims. In fact IMHO an eared chromed knock off looks best on a painted wire wheel. It is lost on a chrome wire, especially a 72 spoke one.

I actually took the chrome wires off the MGC and run painted 72 spoke Dunlops now, so I practice what I'm preaching.

Hey Koby!

Just the ones I wanted to get. Octagons with the crest.

Just started to think it might be too much with all the crests if I also added the tire valve caps with the crests, seatback release knobs with the crests, badging on the glovebox and a crested cigar lighter!

Just a few steps towards my MGC GT Deluxe. Or just a couple of steps too close to "Tacky?"

C Ya,
Mark

Very nice, Flash !

Thinking about upgrading to chrome wires myself, looks nice against the BRG.

Of course triples are the choice for my Aston Martin B)-

(dum da-da dum-dum, dum dum dum dum da-da dum-dum ...)
