As in the topic. I'm wondering what is the best source for ARH176 fuel tank. First: they are quite expensive, second: those shown in the picture at MOSS looks like high school welding project.
Does any of you have bought one of those? Which fit/looks the best. Is there stainless steel option? Or maybe there is good enough budget option available?

Thank you for help

Hi Andrzej

I am in the UK and have joined the owners club here. They can supply standard replacement tanks but also oversize ones, possibly meant for the 6 cylinder MGCs and V8 RV8's. This is the web site for the club:-

https://www.mgownersclub.co.uk/

It should give you enough information to contact them to ask for help.

Alternatively, the MBG Bee Hive is a very helpful parts supplier:-

http://mgbhive.co.uk/

I think they could and will help you if you contact them.

I haven't heard of any stainless steel tanks being available unless you get one fabricated locally to yourself. A mild steel well painted tank should last well even there. I would use a zinc rich primer to protect the steel followed by red oxide to protect the next coat. This would be Hammerite paint or similar. It is a very tough paint and a couple of coats should give the tank a long life. This painted shouldn't go directly onto a zinc rich paint hence the red oxide primer.

Tanks and many other steel parts on these cars would have just got a standard coat of fairly cheap cellulose paint originally offering little resistance to rust.

Yes, stainless tanks are available. It's the only thing I would bother buying. No more rust... ever. Contact Sportscar Metalworks. A quality tank is not cheap, but there isn't much choice and you'll never buy another one.

"Yes, stainless tanks are available."

But are the strapped on tanks available? OP wants the early tank that M-E sells. It seems G/GA owners haven't had to replace their tanks.

Yes. £240.00 from the firm I mentioned above in the UK.

I don't know if M-E still sells stainless tanks. I have one of theirs on my GT from about 25 years or so ago but several years ago I heard they stopped offering them. Maybe they have them again, not sure.

Sorry Steve missed the reference. I didn't see a SS offering from M-E anymore.

Why not try the man who actually makes hem in steel and stainless here in the UK rather than the retailer.

Deal direct - he deals worldlwide

Try the man we know as "Metal Micky" his website mgb early tank page is here http://www.sportscarmetalworks.com/mgb/

That's the same firm I've been recommending. His real name is Michael Beakhouse. Good products.

Thank you all, I already sent a question to Sports Car Metalworks.
Has anybody bought, use or saw such tank from MOSS? I'm asking because I'm preparing quite big order from Moss and the offer (after my discount) is quite attractive for the tank. On the other hand, it looks really bad on their pictures.

When you say Moss do you mean Moss or M-E? I agree the pic here doesn't look that great but I'm not familiar with strap on tanks. You could ask EarlyMGB what they think.
