Rear muffler rusted out and I'm tired of spending money on the car this year. What if I just run piece of straight pipe where the rear is supposed to go?
This is Iowa, no inspections.

That's doable but it will sound pretty bad. The center muffler is just a resonator.

It'll be loud. I'd try it if I lived there.

It would have been around $100.00 by the time the genuine article was delivered plus the clamps but at the local Everything Store picked up the pipe, two clamps and a hanger for $17.00.

Just out of interest, what is the purpose of a resonator?

Someone picked up a near stock size muffler and clamps from their local Tractor Supply for about $20
Gotta be one near Iowa City.

OK so don't sell the car, you can always cash in the empty bottles in the garage, all you need is 63$

Bosal brand, nice OE sound.

....resonator just quiets down the car......I recall that I eliminated the resonator on my 59 tr3 in 1965.......louder- but not deafening by any means......

here is an idea- hit ebay......do 'glasspack muffler'........I have used these types many times......but try and get adaptors that fit- takes patience.......low cost.....louder, but not objectionable.........probably still sold in oreillys....advance....autozone......or order on ebay........
