Just had this discussion with a friend. We decided to use block bolts because he has an alloy head.

In the past I've used the valve cover studs. But, be careful, if not tight enough you can bend them. If you do use them, go ahead and order a new set of the long ones just I'm case. I've found that using those studs keeps the motor straighter than those places sometimes recommended on the sides.

#5 below is "the factory" bracket utilising the rocker bolts front and rear. Others have different views about this and it's all detailed on MGE. My advice if you use the factory method is to remove the rocker cover and nut the bracket to the pedestals.

And please add your B's year to your handle - that way you get correct for year answers and not guesses.

Here are a few pictures of my set up. The adjustable spreader bar made it a breeze to get the angle right to make the pull easier.
You can get it inexpensive at HF. If you do, take off the handle and just use a ratchet and socket to move it, much easier as the clearance isn't enough at a big angle.

Good luck. It was actually pretty easy for me to do it by myself with this set up and a good engine hoist.

Almost ready to go back in now, can't wait!

Don't be fooled into buying a leveller, it's not necessary and personally I find one more handicap than asset.

I speak from having done about a dozen pulls just in the last 18 months or so (only two just the engine) and plenty before that.

I borrowed a leveller for two of those engine + transmission pulls and was happy to give it back.

This is what I use.

I guess it's each to their own eh Ernie. I don't think I could have done it without the levelling bar. Trying to get the engine and gearbox on the right angle to just slide back and in without hitting the firewall or slam panel and the output flange catching on the rear 'chassis' xmember as a one person job is IMO a pita. As I said different strokes for different folks. Maybe I'll see how you do it later next year thumbs up
