Looking for a timing cover from an MGB with 1800 engine. It needs to have the rubber seal.
Thanks.

Jim,

Suggest you specify what year car you're working with, since early MGBs had the timing pointers on the bottom of the timing cover, and the later ones had the timing marks moved to the top, just below the alternator. It makes a difference since these timing marks must relate to the notch on the harmonic balancer...

Thank you. I moved the post to the buy section. I have a 61 Metropolitan with a MG (Austin) 1500 Engine. The timing cover is a felt seal and leaks. I was told to get a timing cover from an 1800 cc engine with a rubber seal. The timing marks will be different but that is OK. I was told a Midget or MGB might work.

Jim,

I did the same thing on my Magnette. I used the cover with the marks on top. Makes a big difference when setting the timing. Just remark the pulley. I may have a front cover in the gold mine. BTW not all B Series timing covers are the same. Does your engine have a chain tensioner? If not you might have to get creative, but doable.

Just replace the seal on your cover, and use a speedi sleeve on the pulley.
When fitting the cover loosely install it then fit the pulley before tightening the cover bolts. This centres the cover / seal.

I have been told the the cover can come from a 62 MGA up and MGB to 1980.

I have done this, just install a new felt seal, it will last a good length of time, and the crankshaft does not suffer damage from this type of seal, (no speedi sleeve needed). Easiest route to follow.

or, Follow Charles advice, find and fit a MGB cover. There is types with a rubber oil seal installed from the front/outside, others (most) install from the rear/inside.
Memory serves me either will work, the Metropolitan does have a timing chain tensioner.

Ensure you use the correct oil slinger to match the type of seal.
