I received an e-mail form Vitesse regarding their Mazda 5-speed transmission kit for the MGA; its a fully drop-in unit and requires no mods. The kit is available for approx. $3,200 + $470 shipping to the U.S. Please see attached pdf for more info.

very cool that someone makes this and there is an alternative to the t-9 kit, which seems to be hard to find. But, you have to be loaded to afford this solution! If anyone out there tries it, let us know how it works!

$3700.00 buys ALOT of gas at 5-7 mpg deference! Even 10 mpg deference would take a lifetime for anu of us to recoup. Even at normal daily driver miles it would take around 10 years to recoup. I could see it if you want to cruise faster. I drive my nephews mgb at 65 mph and it is sufficient speed for highways around here on speedy southern Florida. Rpms aren't too too high....car doesn't mind it. Jmho. ..but Im getting old and cheap, sorry i meant to say frugal! !

Does anyone recognize the origin of the transmission? Adapters are easy to make given the right trans.

I like it. When taking into account buying and rebuilding an OD trans it doesn't seem too bad. And really competitive with the T9 conversion using a rebuilt trans. When my OD shoots craps the Vetisse conversion will be on the top of my list.

If you have an OD trans the core would be worth somewhere around $600 so that will take out some of the sting.

I absolutely love the idea. Beautiful looking package. I think though, the company would be better off if they offered the kit minus the transmission. That trans is pretty common in the US, which would be the largest market.

It could be offered a little cheaper, and shipping would be much less. Instead of just selling a few here and there to those who can afford it they could open it up to the average guy and make more money in volume sales.

What you are missing is the entire front case is a Vetisse casting to bolt up to the MG back plate. The back half is Miata. My only concern is with the HTOB.

I didn’t miss that, still think it would be a nice option to have just a DIY kit. I didn’t see the HTOB. That could be a bit risky. You would think if they went theough all the trouble of designing an MG front half they would have kept the stock setup.

I suppose it’s the same as having a slave cylinder just more compact. If it ever went south, it’s a tranny drop, and then where does all the fluid go...Not sure of future parts availability either.

Still a nice setup!

It isn't a rebuild, it is a brand new gearbox, and all the internals are MX5, so parts are no problem at all. The casing is a Vitesse special, and it's only a few hundred dollars more than the HiGear kit with a rebuilt T9.

The drawback is there's no low-starter version, and I HATE the gearstick

To the US the total would be $3670, I only paid $2400 for my T9 from Hi Gear so it is more than a few dollars.

As an FYI, MGA specific marketing links will be forthcoming in the next few weeks, so some of what may be pictured in the current brochure may/may not be different. If anyone has an immediate interest, my suggestion would be to reach out directly to Vitesse:
