Here's a thread to collect your MGB videos from Youtube, Vimeo etc.
Post a link to your drive, race, whatever!
You can "embed" the video directly in your post by wrapping the Youtube video address in \[video] tags,
or click on the "film" icon at the far right of the post editor toolbar.
I'll start it off with this classic commercial:

Hi Rick,
I had thought about it, Napa isn't too far a drive for me. If I can get a day or two off of work, I might be able to swing it, I know my son would love to see all of the cars. My wife is also due with our third late spring so a new baby might make it a bit harder to break away but we'll see.
Not a driving video...i'm not coordinated enough to do that...
But here's a short one in the driveway:

Not a video (but I didn't want to start a separate "vanity" thread when all I had to show was just a couple of pix of the weekend.
Still, it relates to the above quoted video so it is somewhat relevant.... these shots were taken at the same track.
1. Pushing an MX5 through a sweeping corner. I couldn't get past him but he certainly knew I was there :-)
2. Same corner... no MX5.. cocking the front wheel in the air!

Nice rally footage! Love the "donut" (360) part of the course. Good save on stalling the engine at one of those stops. :D
I just found a better version of an earlier posted video (my laps of the racetrack). This version is much clearer than the YouTube version but I had to strip off the copyrighted music soundtrack. This meant I lost most of the car/engine noise too, mores the pity, and gained some "interesting electronica" music - but the pictures are still good :)

Yes, LiL Mac is finally running. After six years of restoration she started with no issues. It is the first time the car has run since 1994. I am attaching a video so you can join in on the excitement! Note the three seconds of crank time to ignition. The white cloud is from the oil that was in the cylinders keeping them comfy until the slow owner could finish the other stuff (Hope it didn't leave an oil film on George's nice TR4A parked outside). It is now running with 75 lb oil pressure.
Thanks to all here on the forum that have helped to get me this far. Chris and Tony for parts and innumerable others who have given the advice that have helped me fill four binders with tech notes.

Dear Fellow MGB owners:
I recently completed a motion picture with a plot that revolves around restoring an MGB Roadster. We're premiering up in Northern California's Cinequest Film Festival and would love to flood the town with as many MGB's as possible on the night of our screening. If you know of any MGB owner up in the Bay area, perhaps you can pass along the information. A large turn-out of our beautiful cars would certainly make for a media event and bring much needed attention to our indie movie!
Thanks and Safety Fast!

We posted this two days ago:

Semi-sorta and almost a professional video, not just a clip. Our next one we'll do even better...
The brief: 1973 MGB GT from ND. The car has a 3.4L SFI V6. We have little about everything but the 9 minutes in the middle are all about how it drives, feels and even hard pulls and passing. If you watch nothing else, get to the second half of the video where we show a few semi hard and hard pulls and passing on the freeway!
Those of you who think that a V6 is not the car a V8 is, check this one out... Okay, I admit its a cruiser with air conditioning and lots of other stuff to make it ride nice but its got:
A CCE conversion kit
BMC GM type rear axle with 3.42 ratio and WW brakes.
3.4L Crate motor converted to SFI L32 type
Fastcars front suspension and brakes
Doug Jackson's Composite springs, tube shocks, panhard rod, and antitramp system
Ford 5 lug hubs with aftermarket rims.
(I forgot a few more)
Air Conditioning, Miata seats, sound deadening... Oh, just watch the video!
Interior and paint was done by the owner. The driveline, wiring and everything else was done by BMC. Lots of BMC parts too. (dare I say?)
The latest in-car (new little camera with god-awful audio... I will sort that out for next time).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBIQ2LbgTcE
When you are chasing a V8 the only chance you have of catching them (the green car - a Torana) is under brakes and through the twisty bits. They sort of disappear from you on the straight.
So, I thought I would brake later... and later... until... ooops! I was never going to make it!
(Seriously, pardon the audio - and my long hair flapping in front of the camera).
Hi Eric,
Good video! You may know this already, but the main thing wrong with the audio is the wind noise...or the noise as the car races through the air. This can be fixed in a couple of ways. The cheapest and simple fix is to cover the mic with some foam rubber with a solid front piece to break the wind, a piece of cardboard, etc.
The best thing to do is to get a separate mic if your camera will allow you to plug one in. Experiment with the location. But put a wind sock or foam wind piece on it and keep it out of the air stream. Let the windshield break the full force of the wind.
Also, keep it as far away from the transmission tunnel as you can as you are also picking up a good deal of mechanical noise.
Don't know if you get Speed Channel down there but that's what we used to do all the time for shows we shot for them.
Best,
Al

Thanks - yeah it was a bit of an experiment with this new little pencil camera. Being further inside the car I thought the wind noise might be less (all the creaking and ghroaning is probably me more than the car :-) I now have a separate microphone but it is going to take a little surgery to attach it. The original mic is waterproofed into the camera, which I thought would help with wind noise.
Next races are in a fortnight and I will have two different cameras on the car to bore people with (I might face one backward to show the people on my tail :-)
Hey good luck with the next race...the 2 camera plan sounds good. We'll be watching for the results.
Now I just gotta check my New England to Australian translation guide/never did know what a fortnight was!
I always have had great times on my visits down under. A couple trips in the sixties (met Graham Hill in Sydney in '68--whoa, your car was brand new then--I think that makes me an antique, too!)
Then was back a couple years ago to shoot a motorcycle adventure show Southeast of Sydney along the coast.

My latest - me on my first run up the Collingrove Hillclimb track (Barossa Valley, South Australia) as part of the MG Challenge interstate competition.
A cold and greasy and narrow track - and a nervous driver.
I improved my time by over a second by the last run.
It is both terrifying and fun (afterwards) - a little more practice and track familiarity would do me the world of good. BUT is was nerve wracking seeing a guy destroy his MGF by leaving the track rather spectacularly later in the day.

I taped the efforts to start the MG after she sat in the back of my garage since 1998.
The funniest part is my wife Laura. I was joking with Kevin (AKA Fieldbuilder here on the forum) that she was an ex-Army MP and swears like a sailor so, of course, she goes out of her way to swear constantly...not knowing that I am taping the whole thing.
I showed this to her last night and she is so embarrassed.
The first half of the vid shows us trying to get the B restarted. The second half is after I replaced most of the ignition parts on Sunday and she actually runs.

One of the last things I tried was to place a set of sunglasses over the Camera lens. It worked! The distortion level to the camera dropped. If that gives an idea of how bright they are, just watch the last 15 seconds of the video for this effect.

I showed these to my Mom and the next day (Yesterday!) she had someone hit the rear of her car and run. If she would have only had something like these in her car, chances are much greater that this would Not have happened.

Here's me out for a ride this morning.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHtb47qSWn0
I am sick of my crappy attempts at in-car videos so I lashed out ab little and I got myself a PoV1.5 kit.
I will give me some slightly more acceptable results like this (but maybe not quite as fast):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzjGACJL1Sk
And my first attempt with my very own PoV1.5 camera.
I tried uploading to VIMEO to be able to upload a higher quality video (because the quality of the video the camera outputs is very good and I hate losing that quality on YouTube), but something wacky seems to have happened with this one.
Let me know if it is just me or do you, too, see all the blocky, black artifact rubbish? It isn't in the original video I uploaded.
My first test run of the POV1.5 - a little drive around my suburb (as my note on the video says, the camera wasn't firmly mounted for this test).
http://vimeo.com/6653097
EDIT: I replaced it with a lower quality video - I might have to play with this stuff a bit more :)
This was shot about a week ago, we just took out the falling apart muffler and put in a new exhaust. About the third time on the road since 1986.

OK, another attempt at the new camera (maybe I positioned the camera a little low, it makes me feel like a little kid, straining to look over the dashboard, as I watch this).
A little drive through the Hills just outside of Adelaide, South Australia - it was a lovely day for a topless drive!

A better test of the in-car camera - can't wait to get it on the track (as I say in the comments on the vide, pardon the revs... they were done for a reason :-)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNVr5U23MMk
OK, posted elsewhere - the reason will become apparent when you watch it.
Just the same in-car camera taken on a little drive up the hill out of Adelaide (South Australia). It was to be the start of a cruise into the hills and then a bit of a blast down some of my favourite twisty roads, but we barely made it up the hill.
I could have driven her home with no clutch but the noises she was making sounded like it was going to do her more harm - so I got a lovely lift home in the cab of a flatbed tow truck.
Enjoy (the annotations from 2:40 on the video tell the story). It really was a lovely afternoon for a drive....

Why is it you're always guaranteed to get a slow driver in front of you, just when you get some decent speed up :)
Tell me about it, Adam. He was in front of me at the very bottom of the bank and I waited a few minutes before I set off.
Guess he was slower than I thought.

If you have watched the power put out at the dyno of the MGB that we post above (Novmber 17th 2009) you may want to watch this one right after and see the difference...
What is it?
1980 MGB.
3.4L V6 motor.
No special parts.
No tuning.
No altered computer program.
Headers and intake are the only difference between this motor and a stock unit from a 1995 Camaro. This is a bone stock and very hard used motor. The car sat all winter, was brought to the dyno and run with fuel from last year.
Ignore the fuel readins- they were wrong. If the motor would have done that, it wouldn't have run- tail pipe test equipment issues.
Video quality is lacking but adequate.

Thanks for that.
Great post Fred, there are some places that I am starting to name the blades of grass. I am getting to know them so well!
Now I see what you were bitching about, the first part of that video, OMG I didn't know it was possible to go that slow in those corners, it's a good thing you didn't run over any of them. You did good, when I was your age, I would have just knocked them out of the way :)
And for those who don't venture to other parts....
Here is a very rough cut of some of the more memorable moments of my short 15 laps at our recent Six Hour event - sadly cut short when my front right brake line collapsed (which made for an exciting couple of laps with the front right wheel locking up). You will note how serious this problem gets just before I make it off the track at the end.
The track was really greasy as it was just starting to rain.
Oh yeah - pardon the poor camera positioning, I was trying something new and I would have re-positioned it if I had gone out again :)o
Enjoy...

I have never heard of one of these until today. And I guess you are right. Do you see these around the streets over there by you?
No, you might see one a year. I think only a hardened few still run them - as you can see from the video they are 'temperamental'. I do know someone who had one years back and managed to put it on its roof though ...
Saw this one at Greene King Breweries whenI was in England last year and after watching those videos I cant imagine how they were allowed on the roads. Then again I see the newer 3 wheeled bikes out there

I thought you might like to see a full SuperSprint run from the weekend. A bunch of cars trying to get their best laptimes (and occasionally meeting up on a lap - we aren't allowed to say that we actually "race" each other but we take off two at a time to make it a bit more fun).
This was a quick/small version of the video so the quality of the video and audio is down a little - and it looks like my camera (re-positioned in the car) is picking up some electrical noise, darn.
But it still is fun to watch and it was a lovely day at the track. Perfect weather, cold but sunny and no wind at all.
Enjoy (I know I did).

Posted today from last year's PVGP.
1967 Roadster engine back plate replacement.
Hi all. This is my first post, so apologies if I get anything wrong.
I've looked at older messages, and only seeing posts regarding the opposite of what I want to read. I have an 18GB engine, and a later 1974 OD gearbox. I want to replace the back plate from the 18GB, and fit the back plate from the 18V.
Okay, so remove all the outer and inner bolts, including lock tab, and the back plate starts to move away with a little assistance. What |I need to know is, does the back plate from the 18V bolt straight on to the 18GB engine, i.e. all bolts line up? There is obviously a gasket to fit first. Secondly, is the shaft on the 18GB and the 18V the same diameter? If it is, then the same bearing can be used? If not, is there a bearing alternative.
Thanks for any help, and good to be here.
Terry

Cool - that fisheye perspective initially made it look like you had broken your seat back (both seats facing toward the centre of the car). Nice drive.
Temperature hit the mid 90's today in Austin, Texas. Blue sky, strong breeze, a drive seemed like a good idea.
This is my first summer with the B and I've been wanting to see if the car is as uncomfortable as some people had said in the heat. We've alread had several days like this and so far as long as I'm wearing my ivy cap I've felt no need to get the top up for shade. The key to comfort was getting under the bonnet and completely shutting off the heater valve down at the engine outlet.
Here's a video taken driving along Spicewood Springs Road, which criss-crosses along a creek bed. A drive I go out of my way for pretty frequently:

You can see how much the car is smoking due to too much fuel pressure, and a little bit of fuel getting past the needle and seat. It still out performed a lot of cars, but it would've been a little quicker with that problem fixed. I have a new fuel pressure regulator now. The car is even quicker now.
There were guys at that first turn taking pictures, I thought they had the video camera. You can hear me get on it a little bit a few seconds before I come around the corner. I got it squirrely for the camera... just the WRONG ONE... oh well.

Cool vid Owen! That's a fair way from home :) but makes me want to try Honister Pass next time I'm in the Lakes.
Out of interest what do you do to prevent salt rotting away your B? Do you rinse it down afterwards?
Glad you liked the vid, Adam. The lakes passes are great. If you get the chance try Hardknot and Wrynose over by Ambleside. They make the others seem like the M6 :D
I'm pretty relaxed about salt. The car is well undersealed and has wheel arch protectors on the front wings. The drivers front wing is pretty ropey anyway so the protector is just to slow down the damage.
Salt isn't good for the car but it's not as bad as it's made out to be. I've driven old MGs for years as daily drivers and they've survived OK. Eventually it will succumb to the salt but when it does I'll just patch it up & keep driving. By experience that could be years away.

Hi Lyle. Nice motor, and obviously a lot of work gone into it so far, but I wonder if an engine refurb is next ? Your oil pressure looks a little on the low side. My 72 GT runs 70 psi at almost any speed above tick-over on UK Castrol 20/50 grade oil for older classics. We get snow in May in Scotland most years too, although we probably don't get the extremes of temp you might. Minus 10°C is exceptional - it normally doesn't get much below minus 5°C in winter, but then not much above 20°C in summer ( 67°F )

I had a bit of fun on the track the other weekend, we had a clubday super sprint at Baskerville Raceway just outside Hobart the same place we held the Australian National Meeting Speed event over Easter. This was the first opportunity I have had to get the car on the track since doing the suspension and converting from wire to solid wheels. She handled quite well and I was pretty pleased with the 71.24 sec lap that I managed to do.

Wow what was with the red midget? Thought he blew a tire a couple of times.
Hi Ronn, He did lock up the front left a few times his excuse was too heavy on the brake and out of practise. When he had his "moment" he dropped the front left off the tarmac which unsettled his car. The embarrassing bit for me was crunching reverse when I went for second, after his moment in front of me. I also have to tap out my inner guards to as you probably heard the tyres touching occasionally

There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who do. And those who know exactly how it should have been done. As one of the former, I constantly hear from the latter. I never have the heart to tell them they should join me. So it goes.
Stewart, great job, one of the best looking B's I've seen. I had two A's when younger, sold them for a song, crazy! Now just traded for a 73 B and it needs a lot of work. Maybe if I live long enought I have it looking good too! Take care, keep up the good work!

Ha! Not all places are that clean. That was Richmond in N Yorks, a tourist town and they keep it pretty clean. Sadly there's plenty of rubbish in other areas.
If you mean the lines that appear at 1.24 in the video, they are either side of pedestrian crossings and mark no parking areas to improve the pedestrian's view of the road .

This is not a "fast road" video, just a short cruise to the Madfish Grille on Rocky Neck (artist colony) in Gloucester, Massachusetts: a nice harbor-front bar that's packed in the summer months. Parking is tight, but one can park in the adjacent shipyard, as I did here…

Forgive the audio picking up my occasional talking to myself and muttering at other drivers, joggers, etc.…
My 79 MGB "Sabrina" - I used her in a web commercial for a credit union in Ventura, CA. Not your usual MG video...
https://vimeo.com/53033915
password is vccu - all lowercase.
That's hilarious — especially so because when she screams "stop, you have to get a REAL car", they stop in front of a Chevrolet dealership with a bright-red new Camaro showing prominently in the background! (The car I had before my most recent MGB was a new 2000 Camaro SS, so I couldn't help noticing!)
Nice clean work with the video, BTW — especially the MotoLita wheel floating around as he steered the invisible car.… And your "Sabrina" looks like you just bought it new yesterday.
Thanks Paul - I had to use the Chevy dealership in the background for client relations reasons, since they're affiliated with the credit union. If they weren't 2 hours away, I would have borrowed one of their Chevy convertibles for the green screen shoot - but had to make do with my "free" MG :) These spots are supposed to be silly - and so far I've been able to deliver that. I had planned to use my "spare" steering wheel at the green screen shoot but forgot it - so I removed the Motolita (9 bolts!) and used that. One of those days.
And yet so many people think commercials are easy to script and shoot! (Can't wait for you to post your outtakes reel for this one…)

Nice drive Stewart if ever there was a case for OD though...............B-)
Fortuitous overtake on the van !
Intrigued by the video overlay, what are you using for that ?
On a drive like that I think I'd be averaging 20 mph faster and in and out of OD 3rd
Thanks William - I'm gonna tell her you said so. ;) BTW in case I didn't tell you, I was Art Director at WAVY-TV10 1983-1986. Good times. Family's still in Portsmouth and VB.
My first test of an in-car camera mount: video camera mounted on a tripod that I then jammed behind the seats! But it seemed to work fine.

"
Hey Paul,
I think the traffic will preclude any "fast road" video along East Main Street in Gloucester.:D
Cheers,
Rick
Oh, the traffic there is all old ladies driving in the oncoming traffic lane at 10 mph, yes. BUT, without traffic, it's a very nice road course at speed!
Some short clips from Sunday's horrendous run.

I should have said that shortly after the end of the video, we gave up on that route and reversed down it.
Sensible man :)-D
Such days are far better spent in the pub in front of a roaring fire.

Great video. The camera work reminds me of the old British PATHE movies of Monte Carlo.
http://www.britishpathe.com/video/xxxv-monte-carlo-rally-aka-35th-monte-carlo-rally
(tu)
even your description fits the dialog
Catch the roadster and the GT on snow and Costello in the rover.
Great video and you might be interested to know that at least 3 of the cars out of the dozen or so who's numbers I could identify are still in current use in UK, Rover 2000 JXC 8C and two Mini's GRX 5d and GRX 55D.
It's quite possible others may be too but some of them may have become parted from their original registration numbers in which case it becomes impossible to trace them.
Living in France now I hope to run the Monte Carlo route some day but not competitively and definitely not in the snow !
There is an earlier PATHE movie with shots of the class winning 1963 MGB aero drop nose factory hardtop roadster taking its class in the 1963 24 Hours Of Le Mans.Only 20 laps behind the Cunningham super lightweight XKE

Glad you liked it Rob, thanks
Comparison with Pathe and the Monte Carlo is a bit OTT though :D

Facebook is also being awkward today. I can get to the albums but the pictures are taking forever to load..
It's a great looking car btw
Ian
Facebook gets like that sometimes. I'll check back later and see if the page(s) load for me. And yes, the MG looks fabulous, judging by the video. I've always liked black paint on T-series cars.
Cheers!
I tried refreshing the links. Lets see if they work better now.

We have started to release Interviews and items of interest from Reno 2011. The interviews range from people we know and work with on a daily basis to other shop owners and individuals we have just met.
Shown below, Video #4 in the series may interest the MGB & GT forum for being restored to Factory Original condition as you will quickly determine, this was one of the lower produced and more sought after models.

This is what we call a Super Sprint.
And this is what I call "driving mad". I was a little grumpy over a bad start to the day.
And driving mad:
1. Spun me on cold tyres
2. Increased my lap times
Can you believe a 45 year old (slightly modified) road car can survive this sort of treatment, over and over again?
Think of this next time you think your road trip might be too tough on your old car.

We held the Stoneleigh MG day back in the UK on the 17th Feb 2013.

Yes, all that and quite thrilling.
I did a 360 on black ice once with a Mazda 929, brought me out of the spin heading in the same direction, missed the guard rail by that much. :)

Screaming its little head off - I had my sights set on the guys in front (with a few second head start - and more grunt than I). With more straightline speed than me, my only hope was to brake as late as possible to gain those few metres each corner... and I also thought I could catch them before their tyres warmed up.
BUT of course my tyres were cold, too. Did I miss my braking mark - nope, I just set my mark a little ambitiously, especially with cold tyres. As soon as I hit my brakes I was pretty certain she wasn't going to pull up in time, but I had to try. I left it as late as possible into the corner, hoped I had washed enough speed off - then tried the corner (lighting up the rears in the process.
My greatest fear was the traffic coming afterwards because they (especially the white Miata) seemed to be ignoring the yellow flag, with me sitting in the direct line of fire at the end of a long straight. All they would have to do is lock up and they would have t-boned me very painfully.
From that point on, my eyes were fixed on the tail of the car in front of me, the red mist was up and I pretty much over-drove every corner until the end. Driving mad! I can't believe how many times I can hear my tyres lock up under brakes, in that video.
That car can take those revs all day... but I am not sure how "sweet" it sounds.
Don't know if anyone posted this yet.

First time out in the '63 MGB. - H0D A (Beginner)Group - 3/29/13 15 min MPG"
Third session. Missed 4th & 5th session as coil fried in lineup waiting
for start of 4th session.
Best lap: 2:28 (in traffic) timed by Huffacker mechanic (Jordan)- the guy who's
face is in camera before start.
Only lap in clear traffic was slower - the last lap - screwed up
approach to turn 2 - too far to right. Would not have completed that
lap anyway. Encountered checkered flat at Turn 7 just before end of
video. You may notice I've slowed down at that point

Hi,
I'm brand new in MGB GT ownership - we've just bought our first classic 3 days ago with my wife. Love at first sight, then a bit of a hestitation but finally there was no way back.
I've made a short clip of our first day out:

If the previous owner is here recognizes the car, please drop me a pm, I would be happy to pick up the thread! :)
Cheers,
Peter
