Has anyone raced their MGB Rover V8's in SCCA autocross events? What class do you end up in and where do you find in the rule book that it is allowed. My quick read says that the engine had to be available in a B sold in North America. Any experiences with this?

Thanks

Lorne

Years ago I ran in SM2. This past May I found out that is long gone & was put in SSM (only one in the class). From what I've read that seemed to be the correct class. I would not have been competitive with anything built for SSM.

I don't know what the newest rules are. Been out for a while but despite having a class that it does or does not compete properly in, you may not bring home a trophy. That said, No matter how well or poorly I do, I look at cars that are similar to mine and compare. My car will beat a decent autocross/street build MGB and it will beat a Camaro amongst many others that I compare to... Now if I can beat modern cars, thats the ticket.

That said, last I knew, if there weren't 1500 (or was that 2000) of something Sold in the USA by the factory, the car does not qualify for a stock class Ever.

I just don't want to be turned away from an event by virtue of the swap. It looks like the rules will permit the Rover swap in SSM as Carl says. My goal is not to be last at any event. I have no expectation of winning a trophy. I just want to run and have some fun at it. Unless the car is completely tricked out and I start beating the serious guys (not likely) I doubt anyone will protest me. So probably no Fast-Cars IFS allowed and I don't know about a 4 link rear suspension. Might be OK s long as it uses the original mounting points.

Thanks for the input. Now back to building the car.

thanks

As long as they deem the car safe, they will find a place to put you in.

I've been searching the SCCA and various Vintage Racing clubs that sponsor autocrosses or whose rules are the basis for teching the autocross and track days held by the clubs here in the North East.

There is a DEFINITE bias towards letting MGBs with Rover/TR8 engine transplants run in these events. Most likely because MG released a V8 powered car, or because of the acceptance of the Costello conversions.

You ought to have no problem at all being classes and welcomed at any event that you chose to attend. Most likely draw an admiring crowd as well.

Have FUN ! ! !
