Hello,
I was wondering if someone could give me the height of the GM 3.4L V6 distributor with cap and plug wires installed? Either height from the block or from the top of an Edelbrock lower intake would be fine.

My distributor is out for a recurve and I'm trying to solve my air filter dilemma. I'm running a 3.4L crate motor with Edelbrock lower and upper, 390 CFM Holley carb, and RV8 bonnet. I can't seem to find an air filter to fit and I was hoping for enough clearance to the distributor to run a dropper filter. The smallest they come in is 14" diameter.

Thanks,
Eric

You should have your distributor back today or tomorrow.

Eric, Corvettes had the drop base,2" K&N filter. Did you mill down the top manifold, it is rather high? You could do the Spectre hat and remote filter also.

Jim,
I'm actually looking at all 3 options. I have a friend that's into Vettes and he mentioned the dropped base. With distributor being so tall, I'm not sure if there will be clearance. My distributor came back from Jeff today and I just got back from picking up a cap and rotor. I should get a little time tomorrow to install it and start getting a better measurement.

I have not milled the upper intake.....yet. My father is a tool & die maker, so I get this service for free for being a good son smiling smiley

The 14" dropped base would be ideal if it has clearance.

There is also an aftermarket offset base to move the 14" one forward or back. Mr Gasket or Transdapt?

Eric, Spectre has the drop/offset base for a good price:

That base looks interesting. It appears to put the bottom of the filter even with the carb flange but I can't quite tell. This may be my plan b if my first plan doesn't work out.

So my original plan was to use a Spectre 9x2 xtraflow filter, so I bought one a few weeks ago. The specs weren't clear and it is too tall. After having a few sets of eyes on it today, I inverted the top dome (I.e. pushed it down) which provided the clearance needed in the center. In order to get clearance around the perimeter, I'm getting some material milled off of the filter base and the top and bottom of the upper intake.

I keep taking 2 steps forward and 1 back. I know I'll eventually get this thing running, but I would just like a few parts to drop right on smiling smiley Well, I can say that the spark plugs went in with no issues.

Thanks,
Eric
