I am looking into installing a Triumph (smaller/chrome variety) flip open fuel cap on my MGB as per: http://www.mgexp.com/phorum/read.php?1,1154799,1154859#msg-1154859, http://www.mgexp.com/phorum/read.php?1,2887763,2887763#msg-2887763 and http://www.mgexp.com/phorum/read.php?1,595642,595647#msg-595647
However, my concern is that the cap may not clear my bumper over rider. Before I go out and purchase a gas cap and sundry connector items, would there be anyone out there who could give me the overall dimensions of the smaller Triumph caps? With the dimensions, I will mock up a cardboard version to check for clearances.
Thanks.

if the picture in the Moss gallery is of the right one, looks to be about 4 inches across.

I found a picture of one by scrolling down thru the parts in the 800-000 thru 899-999 gallery

Brad,
I might be able to help. I have a Triumph cap I got off a GT6. No use for it. It does not have a mechanical latch but it uses a magnet to keep it closed. Odd but it works.
If you're interested, I can send you some photos with measurements.

I run a TR-250 cap because it is magnetic and if the safety wire ever fails or breaks, it will relatch itself. The top is larger than the one pictured above, but the diameter of the tubing is correct, IIRC.
This is about the only picture I could find of the rear of my car showing the cap. Ignore the written bit, that's from a T shirt I had made for one of my other hobbies, Porsche baiting (worked real well in the pits!)

Brad.
Even the small GT6 or early TR cap is going to be tight. It's going to depend a lot on how your over rider is mounted and whether the bumper irons have been bent by contact parking.
I installed a TR6 cap on my first MGB, but did not run over riders. One thing I can add is that the TR fillers are larger than the MGB neck. I found that I could match them up by sliding the Triumph hose over the existing MG hose.
On my 1970 MGB (pictured) I installed a reversing flood light on the other side to offset the big filler cap. I used the car for a lot of night rallying, so having the reverse lamp was a necessity. The tail was cleaned up by removing the factory reverse lamps.

Maybe a MGA cap would work. Moss 470 -190.. You would have to use the MGA filler neck and modify it.
