Dear listmembers: I am searching for new tires and I am coming to learn that the options are VERY limited. I have 13 inch Minilite style knock off wheels. I have only been able to find two tires that I believe are worth considering. One is the higher priced Michelin Defender and the second option is the General Altimax RT 43 which is quite a bit less expensive. Neither tire sounds like a great option as they are not performance tires and the reviews for the General are somewhat negative.

Any suggestions?

The rt43 is an excellent tire. I have installed several sets on customers cars. They handle well.

I have the Vredestein Tubeless on my 67 and I like em. They look nice, fit well, and ride comfortable (as comfortable as a 67 midget can be). They sell a tubed version but I just didn't wanna deal with it with wire wheels, they have a nasty habit of poking holes in the tubes, and that's just a pain.

Same here!!! I couldn't find a negative review (other than whiners belly-aching about shipping issues or other buying the wrong size).

I did stumble onto these, and I may just get these as they are really inexpensive. This is Wisconsin, my car is NEVER going to be a daily driver.

Someone else on here thought they might buy a set of these, I wonder if they ever did?

My current tires are old but fairly unused. They have spent their life indoors, so they are still soft and not weather checked. Here is the kicker, they are mud and snows. As much as I want to change them out, they really work fine. They cruise nicely and I don't often loose traction in the corners. Given that is there any reason to switch to different tires marketed to be appropriate for our cars? The alternatives do not excel in the performance category, so I wonder if there would even an improvement.

Considering how limited 13 inch tires have become I would hang onto any tires you like. I accidentally slashed the sidewall on one of my old Michelin 165/ 80's. The replacements have pretty much ruined the car or at least completely changed it!

Kurt.

For what it's worth, my '77 came with Kumhos mounted on stock Rostyles. I've been pleased with them, and have chosen Kumho tires in the past for other vehicles. Decent prices, low noise, good wear characteristics, nice ride, good traction. For an every day tire mixed with some spirited driving, I like them.
