Had a few MGs over the years all were in great condition. They were made even better once I got them on the road. Since MG is still the only car I am interested in (no surprise). I was thinking about buying a driver/project car. Rusty wheels, faded paint, you know the works! Personally, I just want a driver not a sexy looking car in the parking lot. Before I was scared to park just anywhere, kept her covered, and waxed her every few months. Frankly I am sick of that! I want the worst looking (best running) B on block!

I have one of those! It is my daily driver for 5 years and is a blast. I bought it as a parts car for 500 bucks.
Good luck!

Yes but you just know what will happen? You'll do one repair then another, then another! New wheels! Chrome work! Perhaps a decent paint job? And before you know it! You'll be afraid to park it! Keep it under cover and you'll definitely have to WAX it once a month? Lol. Chris

I think it's a great goal.
You can focus only on the mechanicals and make a comfortable, dependable driver. Not having to worry about appearances frees you up to enjoy the car as it is.

Anyone who feels compelled to respond in kind to any perceived slight is often suffering from narcissism.

I have a show winning B Roadster, and I am in the same position as you,
Anywhere I go I am afraid to leave it parked, when I do park it, it has to be within sight,
It's polished and covered, and yes I do use it a lot, but always with a close eye on it.
Don't like to park in car parks either,
I have recently bought a 66 B it's not rusty and it is completely original, paintwork is not perfect, I find I can drive it,leave it any where and not worry about it, I find I am using it at every opportunity good weather and bad, I bought this one to restore, but I am not going to, I am enjoying it too much as it is.
Tom.

Mine is like that but not gonna sell.
I've got it running great and now just gradually working on appearance haha. Still badly needs paint and a new hood, but I'll wait till I'm out of college and don't need to park it in a lot with a bunch of teenage idiots.

That is exactly what I did.
I have the 77B and the 73B. Take them to show's, etc.
Then bought a beat up 72B. Boot lid off a 75, Hood off a 68, drivers side door
off a 77B, etc.
Painted it with rattle can satin black paint from Lowes. It's my 'Grocery Getter'
It gets scratched, pull a can of the shelf, fixed.

Mines a clean car but bad paint. I find liberation in the fact that I can drive to work and either leave it unlocked or topless. Its back to running like a swiss watch but doesn't look that valuable. A 'semi-rough' car brings the fun back and allows you to actually drive your car as it was intended
Mines on the road pretty much every work day for the commute.

Be careful! I had a customer back in the 80's same idea but with a Porsche 911. He purchased a new 911 and never drove it, always an excuse rain, parking so he purchased a 10 year old 911 (his beater). Than trans re-gearing next new Bilsteins/bushings/torsion bars/sway bars. Than the brakes calipers/pads/rotors. Wheels to narrow new Fuchs alloys, sent to body shop for Carrera RS flairs {what the hell paint the whole car) New Recaro front seats.New engine 2.4 to 3.0. New engine 3.0 to 3.4. The new 911 still sitting in his garage. He spent (invested?) double what his new car cost.
