After a number of setbacks, the last of which was the fuel tank leaking, I finally got everything fixed this morning. I pressurized the oil system and got oil coming up through the pushrods so the time had come - I had to try to start it. To my amazement it started at the first touch of the starter. It also showed no oil pressure on the electric gauge so I shut it off. I suspected that the sender may not have a good ground when I put it in the line for the remote filter so a quick check with the ohm meter showed that was the case. I jumpered the case of the sender to the engine with a couple aligator clips and a piece of wire and tried again. This time I had 60 psi so I let it run a while. The thing is loud, quite a bit louder than I had hoped but as Lloyd said "what do you expect with a 3" diameter exhaust and a Flowmaster muffler"

I called Ben and he came by after work and shot a couple videos that he said he would post here tonight when he got home. I did take it down to the end of the street and back this morning and the clutch works fine, it shifts from 1st to 2nd and back and it stops. What it did do that I didn't like is that the front tires rub the edge of the wheel opening at full lock. I have to increase the flare in the front fenders slightly to fix it but that is why I didn't paint the car before I had a chance to drive it. The engine doesn't run very smoothly and has a slight lag in the throttle response but I wasn't expecting miracles before it gets the computer tuned. The fan didn't turn on so I need to figure out what's going on with that. I have it being controlled by the computer now but I have a backup using a dual range temperature switch from a BMW.

I was originally planning to have a big party at the first startup but after all the issues I've had people would have gotten annoyed and I didn't need the pressure. I

I'm curious to hear what it sounds like in the video.

Here you go, Jim....I think the phone did a decent job of capturing the exhaust note.

I agree. I doesn't sound quite as loud as I thought it would. Did you upload the other one also?

Edit - I guess you did.

What was the squeal? Belt noise? Or the tires rubbing? Bet it will go like a bat out of hell when you get it all sorted. Neat! Great work!

I haven't figured out the squeal yet. It sounds like it is coming from the power steering pump but I don't think it's the belt. I bought the pump used off Ebay about 10-11 years ago so there is no telling what kind of shape it is in. The tires do rub but only at full lock. I'll work on the fenders to give a little more clearance. That's why I didn't paint the car.

Oh, Myyyyy! Now I have a bad case of LT1 Wood!! Sounds FAB. I'd be tempted to do the quad exhaust tips like the 2014 Vette just so I could hear more of that sound.

Remember the car commercial that opened with the girls draped over the show car: Longer... Lower... Wider...

I had quad tips on it at one time but the exhaust system hung down too low so I built this one that fits up inside the tunnel and gives me a totally flat bottom car. The early one would probably have been quieter with the 2 glasspacks and the 2 Bassani C5 Corvette mufflers.

There is a supercharger there but I don't think that was the squeal you were hearing. Look at the right front of the engine - Vortech centrifugal.

This car is now very nearly completely done. Sure to find something else, but not now.........And 12 years later, I'm starting to fix things that were new when we built the car. It's pretty well de-bugged!

In reply to # 2670756 by Jim Stabe I agree. I doesn't sound quite as loud as I thought it would.

I think the video captured the tone pretty well, but it doesn't do the volume justice.

Of course, we were on your driveway, with plenty of walls for the sound to bounce off. I bet once it's tuned and out on the street, it will be quiet enough to enjoy for a while....maybe not quiet enough for long road trips, though winking smiley
