I've been taking inventory and making a list of projects on my newly acquired 54 TF 1500 barn find. Unfortunately, it was stored for many years with an old battery in it, which caused some pretty bad acid damage to the battery box and front of the tool box. The good news is that's the total extent of the corrosion damage to the car. Battery boxes are available, but I can't find any replacement sheet metal for the tool box front. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Also, is a TD and TF toolbox interchangeable?

I've just never really figured out the "sell one when you get another" part of it all...

The TF and TD battery and tool boxes are the same. It's not fun cutting theold out for new but I have done both on my TF and just the battery tray on the TD. I'd suggest you think about a gell battery when you finish the repair so you won'y ever have that issue again.

The battery box is easy to make from scratch if you have a MIG welder, etc., but the tool box front (actually an ammunition box it seems) is probably best just patched.

I was fortunate that my tool box was in fine condition, but the battery box was not. Trying to save the original spot weld positions, I ground the welds off using the box as the sacrificing element, that way the original welds on the fire wall were not disturbed which allowed me to spot weld the new box over the original weld positions. A little over the top, but that's just me. Here's what the finished box looked like.PJ

Great job and rather neater than mine! I also fitted one of those plastic trays from Moss that also goes up the back, but did not use the wooden panel that goes underneath. Sealed gel type battery (Yuasa).

Thanks everyone for your great input. On closer inspection, I think most of the damage can be patched and will be hidden by the new battery box. I see they are available from both Abingdon Spares and Moss. Does anyone have a recommendation on the best one to get, or are they identical?

The Moss one is incorrect regarding the top flange detail. Don't know about AS. Battery tray and tool boxes ( on occasion) offered on EBay

The top flange is usually the first thing to go, plus the occasional hole in the base. Should be around 10mm / 3/8" wide I think.
