Am considering the purchase of a tidy 55 TF 1500 that currently has a 58 MGA engine. What are the chances of finding a XPEG to refit?
Thanks,
Barry

Barry, You mean XPEG and they are very scarce seeing they were only made for one year. If you are lucky enough to find one, be prepared to pay a hefty price, especially if it's complete. PJ

Pretty slim....they do come up very rarely for sale and as Paul says at a high premium. Even then it may not come with the 1500 head which I reckon is even rarer.

Why not install an early MGB engine? Or Volvo engine? A friend of mine has a TF w/ Volvo engine and it drives much, much better than a stock TF.

That was a very common swap back in the day. It keeps the intake and exhaust on the proper sides unlike a B series MGA or MGB engine. And the Volvo is bulletproof, unlike the XPEG.

Barry, If you want a correct car, find one with all the proper equipment on it, you'll be much better off, even if it needs some restoring. To install that MGA engine in the car in question, the chassis had to be cut and more mods had to take place. Personally, I'd stay away from it and find a complete one, you'll save money in the long run. PJ
